Where are you guys making this stuff up? Of course we need temp bans. A perma ban is a last resort. Imagine for a second you were perma banned. Truly imagine it. You would never, ever, ever, again, in your lifetime, get on ECC, you'd never see any of your ECC friends again. Your donations would never been seen again. All your work, everything you tried to achieve would die, and never happen.


I agree we need to make longer temp bans come sooner, but don't get all worked up about it.

 

They don't even have to "always" get away with it. the just need to get away with it once in a while. Maybe someone doesn't collect enough proper evidence? boom, no punishment.
It's like a roll of the dice for them with no real punishment other than a short temp ban. If the punishment fit the crime then they might think twice about it. If they get caught and there is a chance they could LOSE money instead of MAKE money then maybe they wouldn't do it.
As it stands now there are very few negative consequences. Not to mention that even if they are caught and convicted, you can't even talk about it in a global channel.

 

You saying that temp bans aren't enough. I'm saying that they are, but these scam fines can help.

As for insulting me, I'd rather prefer you not do that in suggestion threads. I can read perfectly fine.

 

How can temp bans not work? If you get temp banned, your banned. But true, they need longer ones sooner.


And as for being defensive, I learned that first hand :p

And I can understand, on certain topics I'm the same way.

it should be based on a percentage of the attempted scam. ramp up the percentage not the dollar

 

This I entirely disagree with. We still want people to have a second chance, not to drown them in debt. If I scam your melonsword, I'll be stuck in debt for ages.

Increased fines is a ton ton, incredible ton better in my mind.

 

Like I said we still want to allow for second chances, not death by drowning in debt.

 

Then don't scam... which is the whole point!

Have it be a percentage up to a limit.

 

No no no, no percentage.

If I only scammed a thousand dollars, your not going to be happy if I got fined 200 bucks.

Set fines are better all around.

If someone is accused and punished for scamming, than the forum thread is going to exist for as long as anyone could possibly care. A damage in reputation is enough to deter any business partner that does any kind of legitimate research on the people they throw money at, and frankly that's what's needed. Nothing more, nothing less.
