This thread was made as a warning for people to watch out for a new scam/trick that I have seen many people doing today. Users have been auctioning eggs for large sums of money. When someone does this you expect it to be a horse egg, so you bid 20K+ for it, but later you discover that it is a chicken egg being auctioned so basically you're ripped off. This, unfortunately is legal as the item name for chicken eggs is 'egg'. So be careful :)

So @Everyone this is the items names:
Horse - Horse Egg.
Chicken - Chicken Egg.
Also a new one is thats sometimes fallen for is
"I am selling a melon and sword starting at 200k" - done thats 200k down the bin. -
It is important that everyone understands how to prevent these scams from happening to them. Here are some common suggestions.
Always ask to see the item first in their hand. Horse eggs are different in appearance.
If the player is not specific in their description ask them to be and tell them a screen shot will be taken.
Pay attention to ranks. Obviously season players are more trustworthy as they have more exprience and know the penalties for scamming on ECC.
Have a mod assist in the transaction. Most will be more then willing to help and can easily verify. If the user is not willing to have a mod involved, it is likely a scam.
And most importantly.....
"If it seems to good to be true then it is most likely too good to be true."
The quote above has helped me my entire time on ECC. I have only been scammed once in well over a year.-

In addition to the great tips ajp said, there is something I want to add. Do not be afraid to be blunt when someone is auctioning an item you are not sure of. If a Staff Member does not ask them to clarify what is being auction, don't be afraid to say "The item for auction is that a [insert exact description]?"
Another great tip is to use trade signs where possible. Even if the user is trying to scam, they cannot scam a properly made trade sign. Trade signs work for all items short of anything enchanted and I myself would highly recommend if you do not trust the user in question, or want to make sure nothing goes wrongs in the transaction.-

If a user is dodging a question, I myself would avoid bidding on the auction as being vague never looks good when you are trying to sell something. In addition, if a user feels the auctioneer is attempting to scam, feel free to pm a staff member that is online, and they will deal with it if they feel the user may try to violate our server rules.

If the people who come up with these elaborate ways to scam would devote there mind power to something good it would just be...wow

But as it stands now, what Eek is describing is perfectly legal and there is no punishment for carrying it out if they find some poor schmo that falls for it? Would it be considered flaming if we call out the non-scamming scammer? What if we do it repeatedly every time they try to auction or sell it?
What should a regular user do to make sure people dont fall for this type of thing?
BTW mad props to EEEKZ for writing this up. This particular thing has been bugging me lately.
