Because the current market lags like hell.
The community wanted a competition, rather than the admin team just designing it ourselves. I personally don't really care who wins or what wins, I just don't want it to lag.

But my biggest concern is how much lag is prioritized over functionality. No one is going to use a shitty market, regardless of wether or not there's a lot of lag. The original market was the best market for our economy and the server overall, yet it was the most laggy. It could have been modified to make it significantly more laggy, and less laggy than the current one, which would be a huge improvement for the market.
We should take a similar approach this time. Jamie, from the voice of the server, please don't stress lag as the only means of picking a market. I know mine isn't likely to win, I'm just trying to preach what's best for everyone. Pick the market that makes most sense, is easy to navigate, and doesn't cause too much lag. Not the one that's lag free but I might as well go to a town for.-

@JamieSinn 9 prime shops seems to be a bit over the top, and it absolutely destroys the concept of "1 shop per chunk" in most of our designs. I have no feasible way to incorporate this into my design since I built my entire market around 8 prime shops. Any chance that you will change the number back from 9 to 8?

The spawn build competition had 8-10 winners and prizes if I remember correctly...-

I have kind of the feeling that we kind of need to take a step back, rethink the rules, the prize, the desired outcome, the time frame, and just about everything about this competition. I've hated the current market for 5 months. If it takes another 5 months to create a market that does not lag too much, makes sense, and is aesthetically pleasing, I will be completely okay and happy with that because I will know that in 5 months we will actually have something great, not something that has a whole new mess of new problems. I don't even think it would take that long actually, I'm just trying to make a point. This is a bohemian cluster**** at this exact moment and I don't feel that bodes well for the finished product.

Here goes nothing
Market Design #3
I submitted everything required via the google forum, this is just for screenshots and a detailed explanation for everyone to see.
===========================================================================================================================================
This design was a mix between the last two that I did, having the module type layout that kuke thought up, with the main marketplace that I had in my first design. The main marketplace has 9 "First row" shops that all serve as replacements for the current ones, plus the additional one required. They are divided up into 3 sections of 3 shops, each being represented by a color. There are splashes of aesthetics here and there to help make the entire market area not just a blob of boring, while still keeping lag minimal. When you spawn in front of the portal, no shops are rendered to help keep initial lag none. Then the staircase of each section bring you up to the shops. Of course each little section of 3 at all times never renders the other sections. All shops in this entire design are 1/2 of a chunk and aligned with the chunk grids. This design is 50% less laggy than my last, I never went under 40 fps, the average was 50-55 and I get 20 fps at the current market.
Screenshots of the main marketplace:
Next onto the modules themselves. Each module has 3 shops as well, and each section has a dome around the top of it to help make the design more appealing and not just plain modules of shops. Around the domes are numbers to represent the module number you are at, along with a roman numeral on the ceiling which tells you as well. Modules are divided up by color, then number. 4 colors, then numbered 1-6 for 24 modules totaling
81 shops including the main marketplace. Each module contains its own portal which would take it back to the main marketplace, then signs which can take you to any other module within the market.
Screenshots of the modules:
