    And also, there is a point to be made that any potential design will have to be subject to the entire server, and will add to the lag already existing. Despite the beauty of the Epicure design, there is little chance of it holding up on ECC itself without regularly threatening single digits. I also don't think Bash's is feasible, as it averages 40s when I lag test it personally. Of course I'm not Jamie, but if I was him, I wouldn't even consider either design, as beautiful as they (Epicure's in particular) are. Imo Jackson's is the only viable option, as mine would probably collapse under the pressure of having 88 shops within 144 chunks, Billy's is too restrictive to prevent an uproar, and a18's is too bland and too spread-out, despite its exceptional FPS stats.

    Well after reading the above comments, I went back to my build on my server and did some testing on my own. Over at the Spawn area I get a strong FPS 60 and then in the Nodes area I get around 45 - 55 and then inside the shops I get around 30 FPS, but it doesn't dip below that. So when you say It way down in the teens of the FPS its hard to believe, and i'm testing this on an older HP Laptop with a dedicated GeForce Video Card, So its still pretty good quality. Also remember its the Client, the internet speed and GPU of the player combined to get the FPS, so everyone can get differnt readings.

    I generally stabilize around low 20s, and I do have multiple market designs on the world. Still, I really feel that lag is an issue with your design, as amazing as it is.

    Shall we just let the people in charge of the contest decide?

    If some don't match the specs needed then they won't be included,
    We don't have to point the flaws out of everyone's designs because we can,

    I'm sure Jamie and co. Can see for themselves, and will decide the best choice for the ECC marketplace >_>

    If you are doing lag tests, then you have to make sure that only one node is rendered, like it would be on ECC.

    I've set my render distance to 5 while testing, so yes, I have made sure.

    Well here goes nothing....
    Credits to @kukelekuuk00 for the essential layout of the market.

    Quick note. Anywhere where there is brick blocks (itemdb=45), should be replaced with oak leaves (itemdb=18).
    A simple "//replace 45 18" on the entire map should fix it. I had issues with the leaf decay and couldn't manage it.

    Also, there are warps to every pod from the market portal, and it is large because of the chunk and the lag. It should seemingly reduce the amount of lag substantially. There are advantages to every large shop, creating competition for the top tier shops (There are 16 here).
    The height limit is the same as before, 8.

    The lag should be easily manageable. Each pod is 4 or 5 chunks apart from the other ones.
    It promotes competition for the top shop, as there are several distinct advantages to having any shop that ends with "3" or "8"
    -It is a larger shop, the size of a chunk.
    -Located in front of the warp, therefore enticing people to go there.

    Including this, the distance the shop is from the portal also relates to the popularity, as each pod has a warp associated with it.

    Did some lag testing - this design is OK lag-wise, but not great. In some areas, FPS drops to mid-50s, while in the market itself it stays fairly stable - not unlike what I saw with my own design, though my spawn only went down to high 70s.

    Can you link the schematic? I'm interested in lag testing it, if you don't mind. I'm assuming you forum PM'd your schematic to Jamie so if you want to keep it private that's fine I suppose. Looks like a nice design. :)

    Thank you for all the submissions, I've elected to keep this open another week as we are not ready for 1.9 just yet.

    I hope you all refine and update your designs, as none of them were any better than the current market design for lag, but revisions are to be made!

    I'll post data sometime during the week of what the benchmarks came out to be.
