Question is mainly in the thread title!
My original town (Mooville) was made purely by peer pressure from very old users (whom do not play anymore, for the most part). All the money for it came from them, and even Andrew (when he actually had money he made legit) by buying plots. Least to say, it was not the most... "planned" or "thought out" town.
Mooville went through three/four maps and never had the same plan or design. How it is now, though, should be a part of.. Tommy_T's, er... What is it, Empire? Castle...? I don't know...
Anyway, how has your original Mayor town evolved? Have you always kept it close to your original design and plans, or has it undergone many changes?

My town has a single design, and just because it's extremely annoying, I don't plan on redesigning it at all.

I was tired of living out of an enderchest, so when I became a resident I saved my pennies and bought a house from Joliver in Picon. The entire town is a work of art, and the house (built and furnished by Joliver) was very beautiful. However, I felt constrained by it: I wanted a large chest room, auto furnaces, farms, and more, and there simply wasn't enough space.
I created Eris to give me room to grow. It is 200x200. Everything above ground is a multi-level pumpkin farm which I am expanding little by little. Below ground I have my storage rooms and cocoa farms. I haven't built the autosmelter (not sure about the legality) but have a big furnace room and plenty of space to grow.
I'm tempted now to upgrade to president so that I can build another "real" town (not just a pumpkin farm) but creativity is not my strong suit. If anyone here can demonstrate excellent creativity and building skills, and wants to show off by designing a town, I may have some work for you in the future. -

Sit down children and let your uncle Steve tell you a story.
When I first joined ECC (or shortly after I suppose) I honestly had no intention of being a mayor ever. I figured it was only a waste of time, money, and energy, as most of the towns I've ventured into were neglected and heavily griefed. However, that alone also filled my desire to create a town that would last.
Finally, one day during Language Arts class, I came to the conclusion that I would save up for mayor and take my love of the Rocky Mountains that I call my home, and recreate it's glory here. Thus I decided to create an entire 400x400 nation with an artificial mountain and ski resort encompassing two towns, a large city-scape, and a 200x200 farm.
Of course it didn't turn out that way though. I had planned out every block of every town but as of now, only the city-scape, La_Ciudad, has remained somewhat along what I had planned. The farm town was completely scrapped and instead is just a normal plot town with a small farm. My mayor town, Machiavellia, is only partially what I had planned, Partyman909 basically messed up a lot of it so that was fun (it now sits neglected and heavily griefed as I've had no time to manage it and all my co-mayors keep going inactive). Lastly, my fourth town which has to hold the other half of my ski area, hasn't even been applied for yet.
TLDR; motivation was to make it better than what was already there. Very little that was planned was actually built. -

Go coloradians! I grew up in littleton and spent high school in parker! It would be cool to have a town like that.

I think I wanted mayor because I hated blending into Party chat and Donor chat... also when I saw the spot that is now my mayor town, I fell in love with it, and had to have it.
-
My motive was to create an empire to rival welikeike's. Of course that never materialized, so I make it a town for me and a few buddies to live in. Yeah it lived up to what I wanted it to because I'm proud of my work and it suits its purpose.

I always loved the gated communities in my area, so I planned the town of Las Sendas to mimic one. The plan itself has never changed, but I tore down and rebuilt the houses a lot because I couldn't get them just right. I'm on the third (and hopefully, my co-mayors think, last) rebuild, from oak wood to wool/wood to stained clay.
-
My real motivation was to simply have a 200x200 place I could call my own, and simply build what I feel like. I went into having a town with no real plans laid out, I figured I'd work on it on the fly, and so far, I'm happy with it. Plus, I like having a big creeper with arms protecting my little castle. :)
