So I'm working on my first town, and I've noticed that what people seem to want in a town (mine is a plot town) seems to change over time. I haven't found any threads that answer this question: what should a town include to make it healthy and active -- meaning before I even sell plots, what should I build?

    Any feedback is appreciated.

Farms seem to be a requirement, pumpkin usually. Fishing tables, or towers, too. Something the town residents can use to earn a little money from.

A PvP arena is a bonus, with the heal signs for weapon training, or acrobatics, are popular. Even a parkour course is fun.

Beyond that it's hard to say what your town's residents might enjoy.

I would add nature. Put trees everywhere and throw in a park or two.

In my opinion a town should be immersive. Some key things are making it attractive. Possibly multi leveled, have nature such as mountains, have streets, etc. Buildings to consider should also be immersive. They don't necessarily have to serve a purpose other than drawing attention. Things like a library, bank, storage center, and such. The key is to capture your residents' attention. Make a town they can get lost in and discover new things for weeks. And farms, fishing, and such are great ideas. So yea that's my opinion. ^-^

Of course you would say that @Riggs316 :p

I like your suggestion @GoddessLaverna . I'm trying to make my town just that right now. I would say start with key points of interest, such as parks, town center, market, farm, ect. then decide where to put plots after you've planned all of that out. A few really nice pre-builts are always a good thing to beautify the town, but people like building their own homes and personalizing more. I've found this out countless times as a co-mayor of WaterCraft.

Additionally, try to make your buildings have some connecting theme. This is just a tip, I'm not telling you how to build your town, but mismatch buildings often clash. I've seen many towns do a medieval theme, and I'm currently trying to do a sort of sci-fy / fantasy theme in my own town.

Good luck with your town @jmichael214

I've always wanted to make a futuristic/modern big city. I am planning this for my President town.

Right now I don't have any towns for residents other than me. At this moment I'm actually moving and remodeling my house, after that I may finish the tree farm, then I may buy my third town and start building a residential town. I already planned on fishing areas, farms- tree and crop, but I didn't think of PvP arenas, that's an idea.
I was also toying with the idea of store houses, where people can lock chests for themselves and possibly have more storage than what their plot size might allow. i'm always brainstorming, and none of my towns will be flat, I much prefer terrain friendly builds. I may even build hogwarts, just as an attraction. :p

Well, now here's another question. I'm building a multi-level public farm for the town, but I don't know which are the best crops for newer players without fancy tools. What would you put in a farm if you want it to be most useful for newer players?

I'd start with wheat, carrots, sugar cane, and potatoes.

Cocoa beans are a really good crop to have to harvest, with a diamond axe it's insta-harvest.

Melons, I have found, aren't really good for any player but those with a melon sword.

Incidentally, anyone who would like to see what type of town this thread led to: the Town of Lancaster, located in Rising, can be accessed from its new portal, located at Towns5, redstone row, stone quadrant.

It all depends on your target consumer base. If you want to appeal to newer, lower-ranked players, then public farms and plots aren't a bad way to go. If you want to appeal more to the nobility of ECC, try adding something original that will set your town apart from the hudreds of others. Plan your town out well, draw it up on graph paper before you place anything, make it as decorative as possible. Trees, flowers, light fixtures to keep the town bright and vibrant all the time, all that jazz.

There are a lot of plot towns and farm towns; make something that will set yours apart
