This got enabled by a small portion of the community. Could we have a vote system like you had for the videos? too see which way the community wants to swing?

If we could drastically lower the time weather is active for... that would be sweet but as i see it theirs no plugins that do this efficiently.

Weather is a toy you play with once then leave it in the back of your room. The "Idea" is awesome but the reality behind it sucks...

On a Side note People will say "Get a mod and disable it client side".
You know what i say to this? 90% of users will not have this mod! Forcing 90% of the server to get a mod to disable weather is silly. It'd be smarter to disable it and let the 10% who want weather to get a mod that enables it.

 

i didn't like the idea of weather before but after having it, i don't really mind. It's not that big of a deal, doesn't lag as much as it used to. Snowfall is nice, rain is less annoying, thunderstorms are fun for monster hunting.

Weather is pretty enjoyable imo.

But you cannot get a mod that places snow on the ground can you? No you cannot. I simply doubt that 90% of the users want weather gone, most of the people that ive talked to want to keep it. There are also some fun effects weather can have :).

 

I also have to add, if rain is something that drops your FPS, you probably lag normally anyway and NEED optifine. It's stupid to blame lag on the rain because it's not the reason.

 

The poll says Yes or No. I dont think anyone knows what that means, because the question is "Weather On or Off?"

 

Even if this poll gets tons of "Off" votes, I'm doubting weather will be taken out unless someone has an extra valid reason.

Tons of people adore and love snow - myself being one. My town requires snow and snowfall for it to be what I want. Without snowgolems (unless they were re-added without my knowledge), you would never be able to have snow.

As for Optifine... It really is not hard to install. Spend five-10 minutes, and not only will you never see rain again, but your game will run much faster, smoother, and you have tons more customization to make your game even more personal and working to your taste.

 

Yeah, citys like Berlin need snow for the city. But as for the optifine, it does not work for me with CBJ mod pack. :( And I need it.... REALLY bad, may post a request for how to download both, without one or the other going away.

The Snow actually falls even with the weather effects "off". As for 90% that's just me over exaggerating :)

Players come to ECC and see it raining or snowing 24/7. What do you think there opinion of the server will be... Dreary? Lame? Annoying?

What's the average age of users who come on this server? 14-16? imagine these kids trying to modify there Minecraft for optifine. Do you really think they will be able to do this? I think the chances are they will do something that breaks there computer and then they'll get in trouble via there parents. If you wanted weather get a mod to enable it for you. You shouldn't force weather on everyone because a few people want it, IF YOU WANT WEATHER how about YOU go find yourself a mod that allows you to have it?

As for the "Snow" you don't NEED the weather EFFECTS to have the snow fall. As stated above for Heaven.

 

Wasn't the whole point of the server not using mods, to add different things to the game, to not force users to use a mod to enjoy the server? Some users are having some what large issues with lag because of weather, regardless of what any one says other than that user. If that user says that weather affects their FPS, which is does, then it does.
Now, my point is, why are we requiring a user to download a mod to just enjoy the server?

We need to find a way to allow weather effects to be enabled for TOWNS and only towns. Like the Flags! That'd be great.. Everyone would be happy. I wouldn't be walking through rain and slush 24/7 and People can have themed towns that have snow etc.

 

Im not talking about the snow just falling im talking about it actually touching and creating a snow blanket.

Actually installing a mod is not all that hard. Im 13 and I am able to install pretty much any mod out there. In fact ive made a mod before. And even if you dont know how to install a mod how hard is it to look at a youtube video?

 

You are not forced to get a mod. As someone else mentioned, if weather is causing you lower FPS or lag, you likely already lag. Why should you not go through the trouble of a few minutes to fix other lag issues, too? :/ Even if we didn't have weather, Optifine is still very helpful if you want to kill some lag.

And the poll to add weather was extremely high on "Yes" than on "No." That means a majority of our server has no issues with weather when it comes to lag. If you're annoyed by the look or sound, there are very quick fixes to it - or you could try to ignore it and get used to it. Eventually you won't even realize it is there...

Users can still enjoy the server without mods and with weather. :/ It's just a matter of adjusting to it instead of constantly hating on it and focusing on it.


I like Wolvie's idea. I don't think it is possible, though. People are complaining about rain, anyway.. Why have rain in a town? There are plugins that you can choose the weather that can actually happen ... so why can't Andrew just disable rain all together (except thunderstorms, which are rare)?

 

Some users do have lag issues to begin with, but not such a bad lag to make the game time not enjoyable. Weather can make lag worse. In the end, you are forcing a user to download a mod to enjoy the server, if weather is the last thing to push their systems to the point of where they can not enjoy the server.
