Iron fences dont exist in minecraft

 

Since I have finished browsing the entire internet and still somehow have a few minutes to spare, I'm gonna add that I have never seen anyone in Minecraft ever refer to iron ingots as iron bars EVER.

This seems like a solution to a problem affecting 0.00001% of people who are unwilling to modify their corrupted views of reality and/or actuality.

I think it would be fair to say that most changes, modifications, adjustments, tweaks, and etc are typically made to benefit the majority, not the minority.

 

Yes, this is understood Dfat. This is how it is:

We have three main options here. Numero uno says that "in order to minimize scamming we need to eliminate sources of fodder that are used by swindlers to scam others." Eliminating technical differences between the /itemdb of "ironbars" and the /itemdb of "ironbar." Is only an initial step toward defining the "point at which a user can get banned for bending the rules." Taking away the ability of scammers to confuse buyers with similar /itemdb's is reducing the amount of ammo in those scammy guns of theirs. Small victories, such as this, are the key to reduction leading to elimination.​

2. Public Awareness. As I have said time and time again, public awareness is our main preventative measure. A careless buyer is an uneducated buyer; wandering through the streets accidentally buying items as they fail to window-shop. What's the best thing we can do for this lonesome soul? Teach him how to do it. We have countless tools to help us educate the community; put those tools to use and we'll be able to say, "we gave you the knowledge to see through scams like these. Sorry, but move on."​

Three. The most simple yet most tedious solution. Watch for scams intricately and notify your local Supermod to legitimize the trade. Here's an example for those of you who are now confused as to what I just said: ​

Seller: "Blah blah blah (could be a scam) blah"​

Buyer: "I'll buy!"​

YOU: "(this may be a scam, better make sure it's all good.)"​

Hereafter is when a simple investigation will make sure that each party is agreeing on the same trade. once you find out that it's a scam, /ban the scammer and deliver the helpless maiden to a far away pasture. Kiss her and send her on her marry way. ​

Hell though, why don't we just do all three. Eliminate fodder, educate the public, AND seek the scammers.

 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but these are only found in Strong Holds and are designed as "bars" in prison cells. They are not fences.

 

They also are in villages in the blacksmith building, if I remember correctly.

 

I cannot correct you because I my self have only found them in strongholds and dont know of any other way to obtain them and yes the are bars not fences If you search Iron fence in creative mode nothing shows up.

 

I cannot stress this enough.

The problem rises from the interpretation of a term, not the misnaming of it. If you look up "bar" in the dictionary, there is only one definition.

Both Iron Fences and Iron Ingots meet this criteria, therefore creating a buyer-seller misunderstanding.

 

Dictionary is not a part of minecraft, search minecraft in dictionary, no results.

 

Sometimes, there is a such thing as taking things too literally. Even if you are right, that is no reason whatsoever to completely scrap the idea of calling them fences to prevent scams and future confusion/problems.

For the record, they are used very commonly as "fences". You'd be surprised. I see no reason "iron fences" would be such a big deal just because they are used for a jail cell in the game...come on guys, have an imagination.

 

As there is more than one assumed meaning for 'iron bars', it has been requested by staff to change how we refer to said items to avoid the accusation that it is a deliberate scam.

Iron ingots, and iron fence. There is no way those two descriptions can be confused with each other... unlike with iron bar and iron bars.

It is not up for debate. End of discussion.

Any new threads regarding this same topic will be locked, unless it is in the suggestion thread, to further the suggestion already put forth regarding the name of items.

 

This issue was just raised to my attention.

Essentials has added the following names to it's itemdb:
ironfence
jailfence
ibars
ifence
jfence

We won't be removing 'ironbars' , because that is the items official name: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Iron_Bars
AKM might remove it himself though.
