I want horses so much I would be willing to pay. I realize what this will cause due to the butcher command but I firmly believe that an exception can be made/found/created. Further, if you are going to make the exception, perhaps it could be a donation feature? This would allow you to have at least some control over how many horses are actually produced. (I think, hehe I realize I am not a programmer, but I have complete faith in your ability to find people to make this happen)

Horses would not spawn. That fact alone would help control quantity and lag. Instead, there would be levels of donation features and "licensing".

First level would allow the purchase of one horse from a breeder. Each horse would require a license, just like license plates on a car. This level would be affordable for most players.. perhaps $15k to $25k. The purchase of the license does not "give" a horse. After buying a license, the player must then find a 2nd level donor to purchase the actual horse.

Second level would be a horse breeders license. This could be quite costly, perhaps in the $100k-200k range but if you want to charge more I will manage - absolutely anything to actually Get Horses on ECC. Also, you could limit the number of licenses that can be purchased or suspend new purchases if necessary. The license, if you feel need for more control, could be limited to a certain number of horses. or a certain amount of time, after which it must be renewed. Purchase of a license would "gift you with the creation of 4 horses. More must be bred up from that. This is quite a challenging proposition as quality horses should be in demand and involved to produce.

Third level would add pack mules/donkeys if you wanted to go all out. :)

I appreciate the fact that this is going to need control to keep from lagging the server as well as the need to find a way to keep horses alive during a butcher command. Still, this feature is a stunning and incredible addition to Minecraft. These are not just animals to slaughter for food. They can be interacted with, they can not only be ridden, but you can fight while mounted. Cat and I have already built a jousting arena in anticipation of the introduction and are planning at least 2 horse race courses, one short and one much longer.

I ask everyone with any skills and ideas to address the possibilities here and to help find a way to bring horses to ECC. This is Doable!

True that mobs only spawn in mineworld NOW, but what if we could by a horse egg (like a villager egg) which would be the equivalent of a "horse breeding license"? I really do want horses in the main world. Have you looked at the snapshot? The horses are way beyond just neat. They even have armor. They can be named, tied to a post, you can fight on them, breed them in different colors and with different stats and capabilities.

The can be trained to jump blocks as well as vary their stats depending on what you feed them. Horses are NOT just another simple animal to kill for food or tame like a cat for just fun. These are serious entities that can bring an entirely new aspect to regular and PvP gaming. Take the time to load up the snapshot and check them out. The more I saw them the more convinced I was just how innovative and great they can be.
