I really enjoy this idea. It took me a while to clear out the huge river in my town. I would say 10.

I would actually suggest that if possible, make it something adjustable. I for one like the 5x5. I can make a 4 wide x 4 tall "tunnel" thru the water, then place the walls. (1 wall in the water, 1 inside the dry space) Not too much work to "reset" the missing water afterward. If it was 10x10, then I'd have to make larger passageways...or do a lot more work to put the water back when I'm finished.

So, with the suggestion as is, I'd vote no.

Maybe a different item? super-sponge?

 

Would a /spongeset <x> <y> <z> command be possible, allowing different amounts to be removed...

If possible, I'd say add it to water plus.

 

This would give me a reason to get water+.

You would have to set a limit on that somehow.

I like the adjustable idea based on the user being able to decide. Especially now when the majority of the map left vacant is water. This would possibly assist in players taking up towns there and buying the donation feature for this purpose.

I think the idea of a command to change the radius of the amout of water that sponges soak up would be a great addition to water+ something like /spongeset <1-10> then people will get their bigger radius and for people like me who make fountains and complex designs with water I would be able to push the limits of what i could build with the smaller sponge absorption radius of 1. This wuould be one of the best additions to water+ other than the not suffocating part and I think an addition like this would encourage heaps of people to donate for water+ i know i would if i didn't already have it.

Kmaxwell and I know very well how hard it is to clear an ocean with the sponges as they are. Adjustable size would be excellent.

I think the idea is good, the ability to control the awesome power of the sponge, some people might start making cults based around sponges soon as they have mystic powers comparable to that of the tree or the awe inspiring power of vanishing ore.
