How should we determine the end of official auctions for front-row spawn shops?

  1. At a specific time and date (like it is now)

    10.3%
  2. After 24 hours without any bids

    89.7%

Alright. I realize that an official auction for Station 72 is going on right now, and it's too late to change the rules of the auction. I've been wanting to make this suggestion for a while, though, and this auction jogged my memory.

Please read this suggestion keeping in mind that I was once on the winning end of an official spawn shop auction, but felt that my win was unfair in a couple of ways.

I am suggesting to call the end of the auction ONLY after 24 hours of no bids, and NOT at a certain time and date (as it has been).

Ending the auctions at specific dates and times (usually 11:59pm EST) encourages auction-sniping. This gives an unfair advantage to people in certain time zones; for example, I'm in PST, so the spawn shop auctions usually end at 8:59pm for me. This gives a west-coast bidder like me a leg up over one in Europe, where the auction ends in the middle of the night.

If future auctions end only after 24 hours without any bids, sniping is impossible, and bidders will have equal opportunity to win, regardless of their time zone.

Additionally, you wouldn't have to deal with people (like me when I won) who attempt to draw out the auction until an advantageous sniping time by waiting until the last second to bid. If the new format was used, the only reason to wait 23 hours and 59 minutes after the previous bid (extending the auction) would be to be a d-bag to everyone else (not like with the current rules, where annoyingly extending the auction is strategic). Under my proposed rule, bidders may as well bid high early, because theres no "sniping time" to get to.

Also, this proposed rule would allow official auctions to escalate much quicker and potentially grow higher in price. Yes, the auction may or may not take longer, but there will always be a point where no one will want to pay any more and one sole winner will pay a large sum. Potentially, due to a lack of time constraints, prices for front-row shops will grow even higher, taking more money out of the economy and improving the market for spawn shops overall.

Feel free to leave your thoughts below, or in the poll above.

24 hours without any bids just seems way, way too long and drawn-out. It would go on for weeks. I think 12 hours is really all that's necessary.

With 24 hours, you get one full rotation of the earth, giving everyone around the world the waking hours to potentially bid.

But people could always do something they'd normally do in the morning in the afternoon, and vice versa. 24 hours just seems so dragged-out and too long imo.

Sure, but you can always post at like 9pm and still be able to post at a reasonable hour the next day. Keep in mind that 12 hours is any time between two times, not just those two times.

I'd also like to see a minimum auction length, regardless of time intervals. Maybe 3 days?

Tbh I think 24 hours is just right. Some people only come online in the afternoon, some only in the morning. It also gives them time if something unexpected were to happen, or if they had something going on.

The auction starts at a certain time, and once three days have passed, the time interval rule goes into effect. For example:

    Station 105 Auction

    Start: 12:00 AM, May 1st
    GeorgeDJ: 40k - 11:00 AM, 5/1
    RamHorn11: 45k - 3:30 PM, 5/1
    Mjames528: 65k - 6:20 PM, 5/2
    DMV19000: 75k - 3:15 PM, 5/3

The three days have passed, and since there has been a bid within the past twelve hours, the auction continues until twelve hours have passed since the last bid.
    BrooklynTed: 95k - 3:00 AM, 5/4
    BiologistEagle: 110k - 11:00 AM, 5/4
No one else bids, so BiologistEagle wins the auction.

Also, @FuryFudge - my concern is more that these bidding wars could take lots of time, and allowing 24 hours may allow for the auction to go on for weeks, maybe even months. What do you think about 16? That might work out alright.

I don't think BiologistEagle is a resident... How's he gonna run the shop?
And why do all these players have more money than me without ever joining the server?

But yeah I think 12-18 hours would be good.

This is only beneficial for the players and the server.

Should happen, even for this current auction.

+1 Also, the minimum bid increment should be increased to at least 10k.

The only disadvantage I could see is that trolls with a lot of money could delay these auctions by raising the current bid by the minimum again and again, but except for that, I do believe this is a better idea than the snipes happening normally.

If the minimum is 50k, then it increases it by 50k every time. Who cares if someone decides to troll by adding 50k each time? It's not like that's going to hurt anyone, if anything, it just raises the price.
