Don't use a slippery-slope argument, it isn't going to work or prove your point at all. There are many servers with lenient swearing rules and a large amount of younger players - There's no proven coloration between swearing rules and the amount of younger people that are online at a time.

Anyway, this is the internet. There's literally no way to avoid swearing, and if you're so worried about swearing, you shouldn't be on the internet in the first place. Besides, there's much worse things to worry about on the internet than people literally just using words. People wish to express themselves using these words, so why prevent them? These words are a normal part of daily conversations and I surely wouldn't want them being banned on ECC as it would prevent many players including me from holding a normal conversations.

The rules are fine as-is. This is, after all the internet, and people swear from time-to-time on the internet. You just need to accept it and move on.

 

I don't think we should get rid of it, but amend it. Like, saying "F***" in all caps should not be tolerated, and using a word more than once in a sentence shouldn't be tolerated either. I still think swearing should be allowed to some extent, but certainly less of an extent than it is currently.

 

I think that the users will either calm down and prove that on average, the userbase is mature enough to handle it, or it will become perfectly apparent in the course of a week or two that this is not the case and it will be reverted. The next day or two will be anarchy. I think that if a filter that wouldn't have made too much lag could have been added instead, everyone would have been happy.

 

Ideally Gideon expressing your feelings should be a good thing, but I agree with what you're saying. I mean, just look at the "Tay" bot Microsoft made. It was created to serve as a mirror to twitter as a whole and without enough filters it failed dismally. Obviously this isn't as bad but there's certainly some similarities.

 

Swearing is still banned when it's directed at other users. That's irrelevant to the rule change.

Yes, I've consistently supported changing the swearing rules to something like this throughout my time on ECC.

Give it 1-3 days. People will probably calm down after that. They're just excited for the moment.

 

That wasn't the intention of the rules. If that's happening then it's just poor moderating, it's not really the fault of the rules.

It's not that bad, honestly. So far I've seen the majority of the swearing that I personally deem excessive done by like, 3 people. The ones abusing the rule need to be punished. Once that happens, I don't think it will be bad at all.

 

Then argue against it then, but it's not like the rule now says anyone can say anything they want. As @UnitedStates2 said, this is just a slippery slope argument.

Well, we can remove the "family friendly" tag can't we. I won't say any more than the fact I think this new rule is terrible and doesn't do the server any good.

 

People troll to get a rise out of ppl. So stop caring and ppl will stop trolling. I don't agree with this suggestion because it shouldn't go back to the way it was. People were getting warned for silly things just because they used a word that was deemed bad by a moderator.
