[Suggestion] Get rid of the new rule where you can now swear

To be completely honest the loosened rules we had for a week prior to the rule change were actually OK for me. If anything Andrew's announcement only added gray areas, though that obviously wasn't his intention.

 

Swearing is not exactly 'good' is it

It's 2016, and you're on the internet. People swear. Use the /ignore function, and move along. Crying on the forums and in game literally does NOTHING to help ANYONE. If it gets excessive, or directed towards another user, staff SHOULD be on top of it. If not, that's what the Complaint section of the forum is for.

I agree with Taylor that the family friendly tag should be removed with this new rule as parents that are thoughtful about their children and monitor activities will not appreciate this new rule and the fact that the server advertises as family friendly.
It is apparent that the server is now growing older and that the younger players are just not welcome here anymore. That is a choice that only andrew can make.
Unfortunately, the chance of the tags being removed are probably nil since we still continue to have the "factions" tag which as far as I know has never existed on this server.

 

I would appreciate this if I was not required to /ignore the same people over and over again - sometimes as many as three times a week :-( Please fix the ignore function! Could some kind soul please make another suggestion regarding this?

TBH if you're so young that you can't handle swear words, then I don't really want to play with you anyways. The last thing we need are more whiny obnoxious little kids that can't get over themselves

Not at all. This statement is completely false, rude, and not needed. I swear pretty regularly irl yet when it comes to the server, I would never swear in any public channel. Yes its the world, but to many, ECC is an escape so this argument is invalid imo.

Anyway, as @TaylorBros22 stated, I agree that the "family friendly" tag should at least be removed if this rule is to stay.

...TBH the amount of swearing in chat prior to this change as just as much as there will be once the hype of this change dies down. Those who didn't see the swearing were purposefully ignoring it subconsciously or refused to believe it existed. Besides, swearing isn't even the kicker that "makes ECC not family friendly" - it is the volatile, rude, and elitist attitude and community.

I would never let my child play here because of the toxicity ... the swearing is nowhere near the biggest problem for children to be exposed to. Even with a parent being on-top of their child and teaching them proper, being in a community like ECC puts huge pressure on someone to be something that is highly negative. The server stopped being "family friendly" or "child friendly" a couple of years ago, unless of course you force your kids to leave every chat or you do bad by hawk-eye stalking them over their shoulder and basically talk for them.

Also, I've been to "family friendly" events IRL in multiple states in different areas of the country... And honestly, swearing is pretty common by not only the kids, but the parents. Even in healthy + controlled ways that aren't excessive or targeted towards people. Thinking that swearing isn't becoming extremely common and losing a huge amount of negative stigma is choosing to be blissfully ignorant. (Especially for the Internet and online games.)

I don't swear around kids because yeah, best if they don't pick them up. But I've slipped up many times and/or known kids who are exposed to it all the time, and they don't swear. That's because of GOOD PARENTING. If you're a good parent you can teach your kids right from wrong, or not to swear (bare minimum around those who dislike it). It's not hard to teach common sense and decency in the situations and environments that actually matter...
