Alright, so we all know that with each mining world reset, the price in diamonds goes down, and makes it easier and easier to obtain, making it an unreliable source of income if you are a miner. Diamonds were meant to be the factor that made you go, "YES! Diamonds! Now i will get all the money!". But now, when you run into diamond ore, you simply shrug and mine it up. Well, I've come up with a quick fix for that, while also being able to nerf ench repairs.
The idea is to make E-repairs cost diamonds. Just ench repairs, not reg. This will make diamomds more important to those with the Ext Commands feature, making them buyers, while the ones who find the diamonds, are the sellers. Here are some major points on what this would do:
1: Diamonds would gradually become more viable as a economy resource, also making its price vary based on the amount currently available. This would cause its price to fluctuate more but in a way that would satisfy those who mine for it.
2: E-Repairs are amazing, I should know since I have them. But I have to admit that they are a little overpowering since it costs me nothing in order to keep my stuff. If I had to lose 1 or 2 (or however much) diamonds in order to keep my prot 4, resp 3, Aqua 1 diamond helm, or my silk 1 eff 4 unb 3 dpick, i would more than happily go with it. This would help to make those with E-repairs not so overpowering and dominating.
3: People with E-repairs would be force to look outward for their resources, which in turn is supplied by either themselves, or others. In the case of the latter situation, they would more than likely do more repairs for others, making finding a repair for your tool not as hard to find.
4: (this corresponds with 3) Though it would cost a diamond to repair, that doesn't mean that the repair person won't be able to charge people. Repair trades can occur in many ways this way...
a) The person purchasing the repair can just simply give them a diamond for the repair (a free repair practically)
b) They could give them the diamond plus some money (the profit being the extra money)
c) they could pay them for the cost of the diamond, and some extra money (money profit again)
d) they could pay them for just the price of the diamond (yet this may vary)
e) they could not charge at all, thus causing the loss of money to be on the repair person, but at least they are a good friend ;D
Making E-repairs cost diamonds (whether its just one for any repair, or another value for any, or if it ratios off of the type of item) would make two things happen. Diamonds would again become important and valuable, and E-repairs would become less overpowering.

I can see where you would believe this to be an issue. In your head, you believe that this will have a major cost to having to repair your gear, which I will not say is completely wrong. But if you think about it, people will always have diamonds, and the people who usually have the most diamonds have what? Enchanted items (and money) which works out since you will just require the diamond, and the payment for repairs in order to do what you need. In the case that you yourself don't have diamonds, then would it not be most logical to not sell them and keep them? You profit more that way and you can plan out your resources accordingly. This idea will cause you to actually think about your repairs rather than obliviously typing in "/repair all" or using macro's or powertool. It will also make that lonely "/repair hand" key useful too.
I know you might think this is burdening to those with EXTcmds. But think about it, if EXTcmds said "this feature will allow you to repair your enchanted items for the measly cost of one diamond!" I'm sure you would have bought it anyway. And if theoretical evidence isn't enough for you, think about how it would literally affect you. You would have to pay attention to how much diamonds you have, but would you not profit more from this? If the price of diamonds fluctuates more often, would that not mean that the price of your repairs could fluctuate with diamonds as well? If diamonds hit a high price because people are buying really cheap repairs a lot, then would that not mean you, the smarter one of this ever changing market, would profit more since you held your diamonds until prices rose? In which case while people are paying the diamond+ price for erepairs, when they become scarce and you have almost all the leftover diamonds, would that not mean you could charge the diamond +++++++ fee? And if that's not enough evidence, how about the fact that YOU control your price even more than before? If someone needs repairs, due to the fact that diamonds can't be sold to the server, you can charge whatever you want in order to make the profit you desire, also making e-repairs more desirable.
Ajr00 addressed another thing I forgot to mention. The use of diamonds to do repairs wont only cause the prices of diamonds to change, or make repairs more tactful, but it will cause the mining world to be more viable as well. I know in my original post I stated how you would feel if you were to find diamond now verses after this change. But I didn't point out how this would change the server and its gameplay. In general, more people would be tempted to go to the mining world. This would mean more mining (duh), pvping, and more, dare I say it? Loss of materials. What this server needs, is an area where materials may be lost, found, and fortunes can be made easily, but with high risk. Making diamonds more viable will cause the mining world to be that place, making a builders initiation into the world of a resident, that much more demanding of his/her tact. One wont simply be able to make money from strip mining. They have to plan, plan some more, and maybe form parties, thus improving communication among the server. I know this seems like I'm pushing it, but really think hard on this one, a small change can hold bigger outcomes.

I see where your concern would be, but you are basing his prices on the fact of supply, but consider the demand side. No one is going to buy a repair for 2-3k regardless if inspect was the only person in the server (at the time) with diamonds. People will most likely go find diamonds instead of purchasing 2-3k repairs. There is no way this would be a problem, i promise.

+1 great idea, improves the economy a lot. I personally feel very strongly about this suggestion and would like someone to take a serious look at it. Good suggestion Edge.
-
+ 1 as well, i like the idea and on other servers i played on (diamonds were 200 each there) it stayed pretty high because of the e-repair /reg repair requirement. should defiantly do it!

P.s do i click something to +1 it? or do i just say it...lol I am a noob at the forums D: -

The people who bought repairs paid so they can repair the tool with no extra cost.
It is possible to push the price of diamonds up without any server intervention so in my opinion stop complaining and do something about putting the price of diamond back up if it's such a problem. -

Great Idea! Another idea, if the item needing repaired is enchanted, it could require exp as well to repair it.

Im not sure i like this. I donated to be able to repair my tools whenever and wherever i was in the map. I also donated for fly so i didn't have to pay other people. I don't think this is a good idea although it wold help the economy it is sort of changing what users donated for,

I really like this idea, and I rely heavily on enchant repairs, a use for diamonds is something we need.
Right now diamonds are basically useless. -
This may have been a good idea before EXTcommands+ was released and sold. you are saying we pay nothing for our repairs? I would say that $70 USD is something, yeah? not to mention that, because we needed EXTcommands first, it cost a total of $100 USD to get these. they are by no means free.
at the same time though... nicely done. well thought-out, for the most part, and a really good suggestion overall. good thing I just bought over 3000 diamonds for $40 each, because this may just be implemented. And when I say may, I of course mean it has a 20% or better chance of happening (much higher than most suggestions) :3 -

You can say you don't like the idea, but that is coming from personal reasons. Think about the server as a whole, it would raise the demand for diamond and people would be more driven to mine. It improves almost every aspect of the game, and having a few changes is completely normal.

The mining world/wild resets are an ongoing process, and people BREAKING tools is not enough to offset the inflation. Where do diamonds go?? chests. hoarding chests. You can't sell them to server, so their only purpose is to be crafted, and every diamond item is likely to be repaired, just because of the ease in getting a repair job and their usefulness in tools. There is no reason for the worth of the most rare mineral (emeralds aren't a mineral resource, they are a commodity) to be steadily decreasing. They need a use, and repairs are just too easy to get. Knowing the right person means you have magical armor and tools for eternity, and that is not economy. I agree on all accounts.

this is unfair for town owners you see some towns have free e_repairs as a advertisment for there town now the town members will have to give a dimond or the town owner losses money by selling plots i find this would be unfair to alot of people so towns would make less money :?

I did not add this to the thread because i simply did not feel that it would add anything new to my point. I apologize if this offends anyone. -

I like the idea. A lot.
It isn't so much mining world resets or anything of that sort driving the price down, but rather 1.3 and very, very cheap enchanted tools. Whereas before a fortune III pick was a massive, late-game investment, today a builder could land one in his or her first few hours of play. Who would even consider hitting a diamond ore with anything but fort II / III after 1.3? Thus overnight every ore mined has resulted in 200% more diamonds coming into the market. No wonder the prices have nearly halved.
I've always thought repairs should use diamonds (well, to be more specific, that the material of the tool ought to be required to repair said tool). It only makes sense. As to those who feel that $100 in donation features has entitled them to free repairs, there's certainly a point to be made there. But honestly, it isn't a big increase in my mind (and yes I have ex-comm+). Even if diamonds go up to $100 each, it's still not a lot of money. And especially if you're selling, it can all just be passed on to the buyer anyway. With pyro+/water+ ensuring fewer deaths while mining (and thus fewer lost tools), much cheaper high-end enchanted tools, and a market flooded with diamonds, something's got to be done to start taking more diamonds out of the market. This could be that something.
