I completely agree with rachel.
Horse stealing is completely unfair and unethical. Honestly.... if you would want somebody FLYING AND/OR GLITCHING their way in just to ruin you/steal 40k.... something is really wrong. Users even take horses hostage. We really should find a way to stop it. The only way I can think of is removing leads, but some users need it.

What everyone needs to realize that a horse being stolen is a fair part of minecraft. Unless someone griefed to get into its area, and then stole it, a horse being stolen is like an unlocked chest. You get mad, but you deserve it for not locking it. As for geiefing for the horse, there should be a punishment. You should be allowed to go back and take the horse if you provide enough evidence that it is yours
-
I respectfully disagree. Having a horse is not like a unlocked chest. It's more like a mobile chest that CAN'T be locked. Give us the tools to lock them and we would. But as it stands now, we can't. The unlocked chest analogy is weak at best and nonsensical at worst.

Again I disagree, the point of having a horse is not to lock it in a room of lwc'd furnaces. It's to ride it around and have fun with it. What is the point of having a really sweet car when you have to leave it in the garage?

It is possible for players to glitch through walls to get to your horse. It is possible for players to steal saddles and horse armor from horses. It should not be possible for players to mount the horse and log out to take it with them. It should not be possible for players to put your horse on a lead and cause it to take fall damage. Those two things should be able to be stopped with coding. The server has advertised that horses are invincible. If they can die from fall damage they are not invincible. I have my horse in a 200x200 town with blocks surrounding the entire area from glass ceiling to bedrock.
I believed that it was safe. Tdogg120 came to "ride" it and put a lead on it taking it into the air and letting it fall. Luckily I stopped him in time. If my horse was actually invincible it would be fine if a player came to ride it. As it stands I had to put it in a Glass box double thick. That is no way for a digital horse to live. The server needs to address this issue because it is making good-hearted players not want to be on ecc. As i see it, make the entitiy stay even if the player logs. And protect the horse from fall damage so it is truly invincible. Then my horse named Sheep can roam free at PvpIsland.

My Own Personal Horse Rant
I believe that horses were added to increase the fun we can have with Minecraft. However, we are having a serious problem here on ECC.
First, the fun of breeding horses, raising and feeding, trying to get a better horse has been removed. I understand the limitation. I don't like it but I am willing to accept it. I still cannot accept that there is no way to limit horse ownership. I am a big fan of show me your "horse drivers license" please. I would be perfectly willing to pay for a license (at a high cost) to drive my horse, not, of course, that I would ride it anywhere. I'm not a total idiot and if I take my horse out someone is going to kill or steal it, almost certainly.
Second, horse owners are (rightfully) becoming total paranoids. You dare not let anyone, not even your mayor or friends near your horse to even see it. You must lock your horse up either in a town where no one else has perms or construct a box of furnaces and lock each one individually to protect the horse. For most people this will require purchasing unlimited locks. THEN, how the heck do you safely get in? So next, you need to purchase Teleport so you can actually get inside to see your own dadgummed horse.
Third, now that you own a horse, what the heck can you do with it? Anytime you take it out of the box it's probably going to be stolen or killed. So no going for a nice drive thru town on my nice looking, well dressed horse. And forget about horse racing! So many dangerous thieves and griefers around in one place? Not a chance anyone with half a brain would risk it.
So I ask you, why own a horse? Whats the point? What can you DO with it besides tp inside a block and look at it? Where is the fun? Where is the pride of ownership?
Now, I'm not saying a solution would be easy, or uncomplicated, or even cheap. But there is bound to be some way all of these smart people developing and imagineering for minecraft and ECC can figure a way to get this mess back under control. I believe in the people that run our server - they CAN solve this.
Let's start with something simple like a donation feature allowing you to OWN horses to begin with (the driver's license approach). Anyone who steals a horse has their license revoked... now how to prove they stole it is another matter altogether. I would like to see horses where they can only be named ONE time, with no duplication of names allowed. That should be a doable thing, surely? So, once you name a horse, you register the dadgummed name and yourself as owner. If you want to sell the horse, you make some kind of application, transferring the ownership of that name to the buyer. (I bet the mods will just love that ;) , one more potential application to deal with.)
If a half senile old lady like myself can come up with a few potential solutions, surely you smart guys out there can blow me out of the water with even better ideas!!
COME ON NOW! THINK of SOMETHING!! -
I would humbly like to call for patience in getting the problems/issues with horse "ownership" fixed. But I would also like to ask the devs/super/mods what, if anything or if anything they are allowed to share, is being done to get the problems fixed. As far as I know there has been no official acknowledgement of a problem existing and reassurance that steps are being taken to fix it. AFAIK the official response has been "its unethical but not illegal" or "unless you can prove griefing or another rule being broken, stealing a horse is technically legal".
This recent post by Rheasmom encapsulates the problems quite perfectly. I would really like an official response as to what exactly is being done to fix the problem.
Again, I must reiterate that patience should be exercised in this matter by all parties, but I would also like to get a feel for what is being done by the higher ups.
Thank you. -
I do believe that stealing someone's horse is wrong but as pbrassat and revan were saying they cant figure out who owns what horse, they only compared this to an unlocked chest to show a point its definitely not the same of course, its just trying to explain better. Stealing is stealing and is definitely not a good thing to do no matter what it is. I know people really do like their horses but if u get a horse egg and don't have a safe place to keep the horse don't spawn them! Save up money to buy a stable for safety! I know people want it to be illegal but as of now there is no way of telling who owns what horse. Until that is found out keep your horses safe! Other than that theres not much you can do. Sadly thats how it is, I have a horse myself and wouldn't want it stolen but if it is i cant worry about it too much it is just a horse, now my diamonds going missing, well thats another problem lol.

steal others horses is extremely wrong and should be illegal and as for not being able to prove its your horse there is a simple solution for this. there is a server plugin that allows only the person who tamed the horse to ride it which would cut the chance of people stealing your horses almost 100%

I think that it is the height of irony that Scott the god is now filing complaints about people stealing his horses. HOW DO YOU LIKE IT? Huh bub? How's that shoe fit now that it's on the foot?
