I don't think so as users seem to enjoy spammy usernames given the numerous agrees and +1s this suggestion has. I don't think it would be a wise choice to nerf spammy names.

After 5+ years we still haven't been to definitively define "spammy" as a set number of letters. FIVE YEARS.
Obviously, the solution is to continue to ignore it and "hope the problem goes away", because 5 years later we're STILL having this discussion. You know what I want?
I want clearly defined rules of conduct. Nothing ambiguous that requires the "discretion of a Moderator"
I want there to be clearly defined "lines you don't cross". If you do, punishment begins immediately.
I want there to be no question in anyone's mind where that line is.
I want civil discourse on ideas instead of attacks.
I want people that have been banned more than 3 times to be gone forever. After 3 times, we non-offenders are being punished with having to put with the continuing lessons that they are just not going to learn.
I want everyone to get along nice like the good people we all like to think we are.
You know what I'm going to get?
Whatever the Andrew wants to allow.
If every single person that plays in ECC agrees that something should be changed or enforced, but Andrew says no, then it's not going to happen. And do you know why? Because there are lots of Ranks/ positions of responsibility on ECC, from Builder to Server Admin+... but only one gets to be the "Owner"
So, what this comes down to is that, for the past 5 years, Andrew has not decided that "Spammy ______" is something that needs to be defined.
So it's not going to ;)
How are we going to push for punishements for spammy names / posts / threads / etc. if we can't even get a consensus on how many fricken letters is considered spammy?

UnitedStates2 BuilderBuilder ⛰️ Ex-President ⚒️⚒️ Gameplay Architect Premium UpgradeWhat's also annoying and unnecessary is how people keep making a big deal about these usernames - Just ignore them and move on.
Great! Let's add another pointless rule to our already complex and extremely long rules, that is by the way over 9,200 words, outdated and filled with loopholes.
The irony is real.
There's a huge huge difference between a long username - Spam is annoying and unnecessary. A username is, well, just a username. There's quite a large difference between a person unnecessarily clogging chat up by repeating messages out of context and a username.
Because we should totally prevent alienate users from our community based on something so arbitrary. That's a horrible idea.
Spamming is just unnecessarily posting messages with repeatedly or with repeated words or letters. Usernames are just a name that you want to be identified by, and perhaps players want to be identified by a long username. Sure, some of them may be trolls, but there's literally no way to tell their intentions and enforce something extremely arbitrary.
Anyway, no. I'm not willing to support any suggest that bans users for something completely arbitrary and just needlessly adds to the length and the complexity of the rules. And I'm especially not willing to support completely alienating users from our community on something completely arbitrary.
Might I also mention, you didn't even bother to define what exactly constitutes as a "spammy username" - Is it any username that has 16 letters? Or what? And I'm not willing to go for any explicit definitions in the rules as that just opens the ways to more loopholes.
In the end of the day, these are literally just usernames, nothing else. What's really causing the problem is the people who fuss about the names and troll with them. If you don't like a name, you can literally just ignore the user and move on.
This seems quite silly to me.

+1.
If we ban them then there is no issue with them. There is always going to be ways for trolls to troll so if we keep ontop of it, it'll end. Of course, a much better idea is to perma ban all the trolls, but that won't happen.
Ban spammy usernames all together. And in this case, I think spam should be classed as the repetition of 4 or more letters/numbers/symbols.-

UnitedStates2 BuilderBuilder ⛰️ Ex-President ⚒️⚒️ Gameplay Architect Premium Upgradeinb4 LMMMAAAOOOXXXDDD - That's a spammy username, and if you make it 3, you'll ban tons of players without spammy names, like myself! (Note the 3 t's, and by the way, I don't want to be banned.)
Explicit rules are full of loopholes, like that, and when you make rules arbitrary, that leads to inconsistent punishments which isn't good.
There's literally no proper way to enforce this. -

Repetitive letters is what he meant, correct? -
UnitedStates2 BuilderBuilder ⛰️ Ex-President ⚒️⚒️ Gameplay Architect Premium UpgradeYes, that's what he's meant. Which can be easily bypassed while still making a spammy name.

My views on this...
Okay, we all know people use multiple letters in their name for the hell of it, and it's quite immature to be honest.
Say your username was "Steve", why the hell would you make it ___ssssteeevveeeeeee_?
Honestly, I don't wanna see ten different people with names like that in my chat bar, so i see where you are coming from.

Yes, usernames that are long for unnecessary reason are annoying, but is it not just easier to ignore it? As it has been mentioned multitudes of times, people who are trolling are doing it for a reaction. No reaction, then they try to find something else. Getting more rules will just complicate things and it's not like they can't just find another loophole in any other rule.
Btw, there is this magical thing called /ignore for people who are that annoyed by a username. -
We can't just ban people because they have a name that annoys people... How about anything with more than 10 unique characters because they're annoying to spell? 16 character names in general because they're too long?
That metric is arbitrary, too. With that, the username "AAAAA" is spammy while "AAABBBCCCDDDEEEF" isn't.-

We really can't word a rule that can put a full stop to this. Could we possibly put this to GA discretion (Full GA team)?
