I'm not sure if this idea has been put up here yet, If it has i have not seen it. I'm wondering what everyone's thoughts are on linking towns by road?. This would allow for travel other than teleport, and may open up opportunities for new players.
I think it would also set up a better trade situation in the towns themselves.
Anyway, What are your thoughts?

As in linking all the towns together? That would be pretty arduous and they'd just get wrecked by griefers

Not all of them, I do understand that 10k blocks apart would be quite a haul. and a lot of road to build. thinking closer runs. maybe a couple thousand apart or something like that. Would provide Jobs for both building and repairs.

Hard but not impossible. I think it would open up a new level of gameplay, provide jobs for builders, and encourage visitors into towns.

I see your point, it would be good if builders could just sign on and work on the roads and get paid for however much they do via the server, but like people said, for some towns it'd be really hard and almost unattainable, and like @steveshizzle said, there would be a lot of griefing.

My original idea had the Mayors of the towns handling responsibility for the road system. I'm not seeing what will be so hard yeah distances are long but once mayors start popping up along the system, those will shrink. As for Grief? What ever happened to good old fashioned public shaming? since the mayors would be maintaining the roads, compile a list of griefers that hit said roads. With enough on board the griefers will straighten up, or face homelessness. A community turning its collective back is a powerful thing.

I agree with you mookiema, that's actually not such a bad idea. I still think some town's shouldn't have it (i.e. water based towns like 10k blocks out), or any mayors+ who do not wish to join in on this, it could be their choice to do so or not. If you end up with enough support, like you said, people might start jumping in on the action when they see road's built all over the place and they don't have any connecting their town to other's.

Oh definitely by choice. Wouldn't force it on anyone. I also agree a 10k block bridge might be a bit much. It will also open opportunities for upcoming mayors to place their new towns on it. and a kind of better place for builders to put starter homes?

I finished almost 300 blocks distance in about 2 hours. If anyone is close to anyone els and would like to get this rolling I'll share my pattern. -
I want to throw up some pics here so you can all see i'm not pitching for anyone to do something i wouldn't myself.
I've reached out to @Zetotry and a road will soon go between our towns. Have a look.
