Ike got banned for "trolling". What happened was he got on the server and said "how to troll with $800". He was never warned, and has never had any trouble in the past three years.

The others were banned for talking about ike. The mods attempted (and failed) to get people to stop asking why he was banned for nothing, so they banned them. They did give warnings, but they didn't answer the questions. One user however, sputnick was banned 1 minute after logging in, even though he said nothing.

It might also be worth noting that I and others against the banning survived the banning by protesting without saying his name.

TL;DR - pitiful excuses for bans that don't really relate to the users actions

 

I dont think you can say that to be honest as you haven't been around long enough on been on the server all the time to back up that massive statement, ive know ike to get into a few things that haven't always been right, but everyone has there ups and downs and for the very most part he has been a very very good member and thats a understatement probably...
And no im not saying thats a decent enough excuse to ban ike straight away, but that statement is simply plucked out of the air as you have no idea lol.

Edit: His ban was probably unjust like a few others who have since i assume appealed to Andrew and now are back on the server...

you are partially correct. There is a lot more to this story then is public and to be honest the fact that it was made public is the reason this all happened.

I was not around when the second round of bans happened.. Some involved reasons that you apparently are not aware of. In any case although the original situation was addressed and people were moving on, some continue to bring drama back to the server and it just makes it worse.

Andrew has made it clear he is not interested in what others believe and just wants to continue to run the server regardless what anyone says or feels. He is the owner and has that right. Does it suck that many who disagree or feel different left... yeah it does.. but going on twitter bashing the server, using alt accounts, making statements that are not 100% accurate is not the way to fix it.

The truth is the only way this will be fixed, and I assure you it won't happen from what I have heard, would be for the initial situation to be resolved and the individuals make up so to speak. The fact is that these individuals have appeared to move on. If ECC is to survive then the rest need to as well.

I will leave you with my final thought....

it is truly sad that this amazing and near perfect community was wounded due to personal issues getting mixed with the business of managing this great server. It is scary to think that one night of actions can lead to what we are seeing today. I only hope that some where down the road these individuals ideals can reconnect and become friends again. It was that friendship that made ECC what it became.

I wish all my old friends the best and look forward to seeing you all in the future.

I am well aware of the original situation and reasons, I talk to many of these people personally. Secondly, while I agree that bashing twitter and using alt accounts is wrong (i have not done this), the message needs to get across to the mods and the community that this is not ok, and that something needs to be done about this.

And it worked. I know for a fact that the mods are planning a rule change and possibly explaining what happened (hopefully fully).

Also, I agree 100% with your final thought. I don't play ECC anymore, but all this has made me happy I don't. Once I reach my personal goal of 5k posts on the forums, I am completely leaving ECC, both forums and in-game.

Over the past days there have been so many bans for the smallest misconducts. Instead of warnings we just see ban. I want to see the rules enforced and people given chances instead of just a ban when someone gets a little out of line.

 

Going off what slayer said, it's totalitarian now. I literally can't say anything in the close vicinity of a perma'd user without being called a fool, then made fun of by the staff team for it. I really don't understand why we can't hear the ban reason as well. Like, when andrew had his hissy fit, he banned what, 12+ high donators, who made ECC. It's pathetic that I can't even say a word about that. Did you know that drama is good? Bringing life and discussion to ECC, while being MODERATED PROFESSIONALLY, NOT LIKE A DICTATOR. Personally, it's a joke now, because I can't even talk about this? Yes, this is what we have become. Snobby totalitarian dictators, to some degree of course. Moderators are needed, but, they almost take it too to seriously. When even a hair is out of line, if you don't comb it back in, you ban it. The ban hammer lately has managed to hit quite a few users. And when they took to twitter to bash andrew (which was totally wrong, bashing him personally. That was too far.), they had no other way of communicating but that. Then they were banned. Anyone who said "#ecocitycraft", banned. If I can't go on any social media site with the possibility of being banned, well, why should I stay? I stay because I love it here, and I want things to be turned back to what they were like in 2012.

I'm very new to the server, so maybe my perspective can be helpful.

1. I don't know anything about the background of any of this, because I either a. haven't been here for it, or b. can't get anyone to explain it.

2. There is no "right to privacy" belonging to a person you punish, which applies to the reasons for their punishment. The punishment itself is public, and to then say "we can't talk about it" isn't protecting some "right" of the person punished, it's avoiding accountability by the person giving out the punishment. With power comes accountability. In our legal system, one of the limitations placed on those who exercise the power to punish others is that they are required to state that punishment publicly in open court, and state the reasons publicly as well. You can't very publicly say "you're banned," then say "but the reasons for banning you are private, I have to respect your right to privacy." That's a transparent and illogical evasion of responsibility.

3. When I first started playing here, I was very impressed by the handling of a grief report -- evidence required, cases handled openly with a record left in the "grief report" forum. Made me feel like if I put effort into building here, that it wouldn't get destroyed because people are held accountable. And that if I put some effort into building here, it couldn't be arbitrarily taken away by anyone without some due process.

4. In a healthy system, accountability applies to everyone, or no one. It applies to users, it applies to staff, and it applies all the way up to the owner. My suggestion is that the "banning" process be required to be conducted publicly, that a thread be created for every ban, and that in order for a ban to be enacted, it must be done in such a way that a record is available on the forums. That's how it has to be done in real life if you want to take away someone's rights or take away their property. That's how it should be done in a healthy community/game world/playing field.

I think we need to be able to talk about banned users or at least talk about why they were banned, I understand it may cause some flaming but it really is not.... Right(?) to keep us in the dark especially when our friends or people we work with are banned and we get in trouble for asking why.

 

I am not sure @thehockeykids2 will even see this since he has decided to leave ECC, both forums and in-game but I do disagree that any explanation is required.
And if you do see this, congratulations on your 5k posts - too bad you have decided to leave.
