I'm certaintly not out "to get players", I just don't want people to be continually posting on complaints/appeals that do not pertain them, and, may I add it seems to be the same people all the time. Perhaps in the circumstance you mention, a verbal warning could be issued first, I never stated I want to warn every single person for every single post. I think that we should have a rue that is better enforced regarding the irrelevant posts, and possible have a little leniancy towards builders?

We do sometimes like to ask for counter-evidence/the other side of the story (i.e. in a loan scamming complaint) and if the thread is moderated, they wouldn't be able to see it, and I'm not sure if they would be able to post on it. Not entirely sure, but I'm pretty sure that's how it works. If it can be done, it is a good suggestion :)
@JamieSinn is this at all possible?

If these people post and just get a "warning" but no punishment after making multiple posts that aren't relevant they will keep doing it. If there is a punishment for it and they keep doing it and they are punished it will discourage then from doing it.

    This is a tricky one.
This is a good explanation of why we should warn but balance it out. If a builder sees a complaint/appeal of a player they know or talked to they may say something like "i now this guy he would never do it" or "pls unban hes my friend and I miss him and hes a good player". In that case cut them some slack and just notify them that you cant post on a complaint/ban appeal if it doesn't contribute to the complaint/ban appeal. If its a player that we all know that post on complaints and continues to do it needs a warning. 80% of players posting on the complaint/ban appeal that doesn't mention nor need the posts of the player well know they should not be posting, but just post over again anyway. Just my 2 cents.

To be honest though, that traces back to the root of the issue - that logic implies that forum warnings are a punishment and they aren't. Nothing happens if you get one forum warning. The issue isn't until you get 3 or 6 or more.

The warning (whether actually an official forum wanrning or verbal on the thread) tells the resident not to do it again because we don't allow it. If there was no malicious intent then it won't happen again and the fact they got 1 Forum warning won't matter.

If they're not punishment, then a verbal warning would accomplish the same thing. It tells someone not to do something without it becoming an issue.

Also, a post from a builder saying to unban his friend might be relevant to him. Why wouldn't it be if he thought his friend was unjustly banned?

I'd also like to stand in the defense of veteran players, not just builders. Some long-time players aren't too familiar with forums, and only use them for applications. I *suppose* they've read the rules already, but people have memories, and the rules are a lot to take in. They won't remember everything.

Anywho, before I go too far off point, a forum warning might not cause direct harm to you if you don't cross the lines again. However, that's simply point of view. A kick isn't technically punishment then, is it? A /warn (if we still have those)? For a staff member, it might not seem like it, but as players that kind of stuff is scary, especially to younger ones.

See I just don't see the logic in not counting warnings in a system designed around the concept of counting warnings. If they're intimidating we could rework how the system in that section works, just say that "any waning given by a staff member will result in forum warning points being issued" and issue the points, and don't send the (apparently) scary PM.

I mean, look at baseball. If you get a strike, the umpire will never go "Oh, well, he's normally pretty good so we just won't count that one."

How about the mods let it slide for the first irrelevant warning they make, telling the player that they shouldn't post irrelevantly and that because they are new and likely did not know the rule they would be let off the hook. If another irrelevant post was made, they could then be warned.

I don't post and don't intend to but I always get a good laugh from irrelevant posts. After all I only read complaints and appeals for laughs. And a bit of tracking.

The rules need to be tighter for irrelevant posts. Forum warnings are meant to be just that, forum warnings. They're meant to warn users not to do something bad on the forums. A punishment intended for necros shouldn't be restricted to those who post multiple times on ban appeals/user complaints irrelevantly. With that being said, I do think we need a new forum warning system. We need minor and major forum warnings, with major forum warnings having roughly the same threshold that forum warnings have currently. Have major forum warnings act the same as normal forum warnings currently, and have minor warnings account for about 1/3 to 1/2 of what forum warnings currently do. Also, Staff shouldn't be as afraid to hand out forum warnings/tempbans. The users may dislike them, or think they go too far, but they're doing their jobs.

While I tend to agree with the general concept of this suggestion - unfortunately this really stands no chance of reality. This issue has been "cussed" and "discussed" many times over the time I have been here and there has never been a solution.
Part of the reason for this is that every time there are staff changes, the rules seem to change or different moderators handle this from their unique and individual personality. That is why we have some complaints/ appeals with no comments or some with 30 or more comments.
The best advice I received from a moderator a while back is that the best solution is up to us as a community - report each and every irreverent post - each and every time!

A few days before you posted this suggestion I posted a similar suggestion in the staff private forum. A lot more irrelevant post are being deleted now and it seems to be making a difference.
This is true, it's very much up to moderator discretion. There isn't an official guideline for handling irrelevant posts in the ban appeals/complaints section. Reporting all irrelevant posts is certainly one way to ensure they are dealt with but really isn't necessary as staff regularly check the ban appeals/complaints section.

I appreciate your support in stopping or at least slowing down irrelevant posts!
I somewhat disagree that the posts are being dealt with by staff regularly checking the section since I still see complaints that have 10 - 20 - or even 30 posts on them at times (and yes I failed to report and therefore blame myself). While in no way am I encouraging mass reporting of posts, I do feel that it is difficult for staff to "always" be on top of the complaint section.
An official guideline would go a long way to ending this issue (imho) as I feel staff sometimes can't win - you are considered heartless and cruel if removing posts and warning - and are too soft if you do not enforce "rules" that do not even exist.
I thank all of the staff for everything they do for us and appreciate every effort they make to provide us a more pleasurable minecraft server experience!

The reason you were most probably given one was becuase the post had no importance to the appeal. Unless you are posting evidence or counter evidence you should not be posting on appeals/complaints.
Forum inbox? Profile Page? You don't need to do it on appeals/complaints.
