All Main ServersShort title for your suggestion:
Ads channelWhat are you suggesting:
My suggestion is to implement another channel " /ch ads " specifically for macros that are borderline spamming the chat by the same players every 5 minutes. Why is this a good addition for EcoCityCraft?:
It's off putting when trying to play and having to scroll up the chat every 5 minutes when 3 or more players are spamming it with their ads.
Players wishing to use their macros could /ch ads, so players (even new) can enjoy playing without seeing the same off putting borderline spam every 5 minutes.Other information:
If I had to /ignore players with these macros, or leave the /ch tr then I am potentially missing out other opportunities, such as helping with requests by players or items being bought/ sold.
People could join /ch ads if they wished to see these every 5 minutes which would split up the borderline spam that happens on a daily 5 minute basis.
Plugin or custom addition:

I mean how do you police this?
Say I am selling limited amount of perms to a farm.
How many times am i allowed to advertise this advert in trade before it is classed as an ad? Is it the instant moment I post it a second time? If not, how many times am i allowed to post it before it comes a issue in /ch trade ?
I like your thinking but i just dont see how it can be police consistantly.-

I understand where you are coming from, anyone can report spam to a staff, as there is normally always one active. (Or a staff can monitor), there are various ways, even a spam plugin to prevent the same text message being repeated instantly. The same rule applies, one ad per 5 minutes, it just limits the borderline spam that everyone sees on a daily, it makes the experience much more user friendly as people can choose to see these advertisements or not, while still being able to see other things on ch trade without the consistent spam.
Edit - some people already try to push boundaries within the 5 minute period by repeating ads already on ch trade and have to be reminded by staff which I see usually.
I think /ch trade is also by default (correct me if I'm wrong) a default part of the chat that we see (unless we have to join /ch tr, i can't remember, ads could be a part of this global chat which can be policed) however it would be easier to leave the ads chat rather than ignoring players or leaving trade chat, missing out other requests by players. -

Ch tr is for ads. If you dont like seeing people use the trade chat for its purpose then leave the channel. The rule is 1 ad per 5 minutes. Why is it an issue that people follow this rule?

It's not an issue that people follow the rule, its the spam every 5 minutes by the same players, normally 4 or more that fill up the chat..it's also used for other things, like trading items, buying/ selling, features and requests for help from other players.
Being spammed by ads by multiple players makes it annoying scrolling up the chat to see if anything else was said/missed.
That's why I said I would rather stay in the channel, to stop missing out on these specific opportunities/requests that come up.
But seeing the chat filled like this:
Makes it difficult.-

I understand your concern. I have myself /ignore'd some players because I'm not interested in their ads, but...
Ads posted by macro are still ads and people might have interest in reading them. So -1
In my opinion, a more thoughtful suggestion, easier to implement, to address the spam would be to reduce the max line length of trade ads. Say from 4 lines to 2 or from 4 to 3. -

/ch tr exists just for adverts. Usually when theres a bunch of ads "repeated" one after another, there isn't much chat to scroll back on anyway....
HOWEVER, I would think increasing the wait time to be longer during off peak / dead times would make chat less spammy.-

I do perfectly agree it's deeply annoying. Most of the time I'm only in /ch trade & private message so I don't get disturbed. I also hate when I scroll and there are again the same 2 ads about warp station1 and a casino.
Tho I think it won't change anything, plus gonna takes time to organize, mods will have to spend energy explaining each time when someone uses this wrongly, and there will be abuses for something not that much useful.
Isn't necessary. I hate seeing the same ads, but tbh I just drop some /ignore regularly -
When I think of it, doing afk adverts = you make money while being afk, then you could be afk farming moneys other ways also I gues?
And casinos is also "afk money"
Damn this gives me headache, simple remove the afk farm rule? Or make it apply for all sort of afk monies
*shrug* love you all-

I think if this is a problem then the solution is to ban afk advertising, not some convoluted two-channel ad system.

Really the only time there is an issue with these "spam" trade ads is during off-peak, where even after five minutes, the chat looks like a spam.
As Nicit said, a better solution (if it is a problem) is to ban afk advertisement with macros etc, and even then, how do we police that? Should staff start doing afk check for advertisements?
Point being, I never seen an issue with these ads nor found them annoying or spammy -
The point of trade is to advertise your goods and services. What would be the point of trade channel if this change was approved? Additionally, how would players effectively advertise their stuff?
If you want a change to make ads less spammy, suggest a character limit for trade, or to increase the time between advertisements. This change would effectively kill advertising.-

I dont understand how it wouldnt be an issue during peak times as the ads spamming the chat would be more difficult/ annoying to read player chat and other various things like buy/sell items and features/ requests by players. Since more players are active, then surely there would be more spam ads that affect this.
I already have to scroll up the chat to ensure I havent missed anything being said or to double check what someone has said.
I also repeat that if ch trade is added to global by default [tr] then surely [ads] could be a part of this until a player leaves this chat.
Thus making it easier to see and police and also giving players the ability to leave the chat without missing an opportunity, (like a cheap deal on an item being sold) that could have arisen from a player they would otherwise not have seen because of leaving the trade chat or ignoring whoever they might have too, to prevent the issue.
Example- ignoring the chat from someone who is afk macroing and they eventually mention something unrelated to their ad which is also interesting. ( they advertise a casino but then mention a cheap deal another possible purchase or need help that you could assist with). How would it be seen if you left the chat or ignored ?
Its useful to have a separate chat for this purpose. You can still view other things of interest (mentioned above) than the same afk spam ads that are being mentioned and filling up part of your screen/chat box. -

I also would agree on the limitations of characters in ads. Because iv noticed that staff will tell off a player for repeating a character like -"zzzzzzz" to many times (which doesnt fill the chat box but one line). But its completely acceptable to use 4 lines and different colour's because its classed as an ad. (Personally i think its borderline spam)
