Do you prefer a neat english chat or a messy multi-language chat?

  1. English

  2. Other languages

If it's allowed to speak other languages than english you should be able to say those special characters.

I agree about that. However I don't understand why you seem to care about this since you would like to see an English only chat O-o

This really shouldn't be up for discussion because it's in the rules. If you want to tell me the rules are old then rewrite them. I chose this server because I could read and understand what is said and going on. That's why I don't join a Korean one or a Swahili one. If give me a break with this one happy world language holding hands climbing a mountain singing songs in the rain crap.

Rules can change. They can be discussed with everyone in order to change.

Just because it was written, you're going to agree with it cause it suits what you want.
If it doesn't suit you, you put it up for discussion. That's what most players have done.
If we say it's final and no changes, players complained that we never put up a discussion, that it was decided one sidedly and unfair.

You guys only want it because it suits you and not because it's best for the server. Think about the others. Those who aren't fluent in English, those who want to talk to someone and learn about their culture.
I managed to meet some players from AEM thanks to this and they are really awesome. I wouldn't want it to change. They should be free to speak what they are most comfortable with.

point is if u dont speak English well enough to Communicate then this isn't the best server to go to. And you can't say there isn't thousands of other servers that speak another language that suits their language needs. I imagine there are more European based servers closer to them that speak whatever particular language it is. And English only in chat is not a new thing. I play 3 other much larger servers and English only is the rule. I'm not trying to be a dick here but seriously for us that don't speak whatever chat looks like this..udhdudbh. Duxbudu.hdbxjjhd.hdubxuudjxujj.diududuu.....get the point? Its very distracting. I keep thinking we are playing the reaction game.

If you want to speak with the few others online that speak your native language you can use private message.

    "few others"
I am sorry but at some times there are more Dutch players online than players who talk English as their first language.
In my opinion it would be pretty weird if you have to private message 10 players because you have a question. Not everyone can talk English that well.

On a different server I saw a chat system that would come in handy here if people keep disagreeing with eachother.
They have chats as: global, market, help, off topic and more over there. Players can leave chats they don't wish to see.

You could make a chat system like that on AEM with the following chats:
    - Help chat (people can ask other players help when they need it
HELP will be shown in red as it stands out, just like the rest of the message
Command to use this chat is /h [message]

    - Global chat (English only)
    GL can be shown green
Command to use this chat is /gl [message]

    - Multiculture chat (all languages allowed)
    MC can be blue
Command to use this chat is /mc [message]

And you can add a few more chats if you would like.
All I am trying is to find a solution for this case since players are not agreeing with eachother.
With a chat system like this players who don't wish to see all chats can simply leave those chats.

I am of the opinion that English should be the main chat language, and other languages are to be used in private conversations. But at the same time when the table is turned and a majority of the players speak a different language, duch for example then I can see how you could have duch as the primary language instead of English.

I like the idea of having different chat rooms where different languages can be spoken and people who don't understand the language don't have to see it if it bothers them so much. Although that is kind of annoying if you try to talk to someone and they are in a different chat room. Maybe we it would work if we could be in multiple chat rooms at once.

So while I think English should be the main language I also don't see why other people cannot speak other languages. While the different chat rooms would be nice, I also think it would (be a pain in the a** to implement and) would not be worth all the extra commands that we would have to drudge through to communicate. Sorry to all the people who like pure English chat but try and be a decent person and think about it if the tables were turned and you were the people speaking the lesser know language, you speak the main language. I do this at work all the time with the kitchen cooks, I try and speak Spanish to the cooks which is their primary language. (and I also am trying to get stuff from them. aka my tables food so I can make money) But the principle is still there. Not going to say this is always the case but try and be nice. :)

I don't care too much what language is spoken in chat. If something is directed at me it's normally in English or i'll pull up a translator if it's not.
    [edit]
I also think people should be allowed to speak whatever language they wish , as the server isn't massively busy so who cares about the odd message in Spanish/French/German/Dutch etc?
