    Hello Founders,

In skygrid many players talk different languages, which is fine, but not in the chat. As you may know the chat is very messy with multiple languages.

Every time I see a person talking in another language I kindly request them to speak in English, most of the times if the player is mature enough to understand that it would be better for everyone to speak only a language, he will stop talking in his language.
But today some players started arguing with me that this is not in the rules and kept on talking their language.

I kindly ask to you to add this in the rules board and to please fix the warning chat, because people are abusing badwords.

THANK YOU again for the wonderful work you are doing everyday

Multiple languages so we don't lock players out who can't talk English that well.

I do agree that it can be messy though

English, if they speak another language we can't tell if they are fighting or such things.

Well then you should get staff from other countries as well (different laguages).

Also, people can report those situations. I'm sure no one will stay silent in chat if someone starts swearing in a different language than English.

Do you actually NEED to know if someone is fighting, people can sort stuff out without staff banning someone... A valid reason of english only would be to know if they are breaking rules, hacking, duping, glitching etc.

    I voted for other language.
We have great players here and they are from all around the world, if they understand what is going on and know it's getting out of hand, they can get a staff, translate it or give us the gist of what's happening. If they are arguing, they can always seek help. Even though they speak in different languages, English is one of the main languages though they may not be fluent.

Another reason why I vote on having different language is because,
If a player is not fluent in English and wants to play with others, they can speak their own language or if they have difficulty trying to translate their main language to English, can always ask for help from people in the same country.
I know most the players are from the netherlands (after spending lots of time on skyblock) and many players do help them out which is a great thing.
    :)

OKAY so I think that a good in between solution could be adding a multi-language chat, separated from the main English chat !
What do you guys think about this ?

That may be good for some players but harder on us staff as we have to monitor both chats.
And for servers that have even more type of chat such as Factions (that will come out soon), would be really hectic.
Most players don't mind the multi languages, you know how you sometimes get scolded by someone and it goes in one ear and comes out from the other? It can apply here just change it from ears to eyes. Scan through the chat, ignore the multi language. If it really bothers you, you can /ignore them.

I am for multi-language. Encouraging players to speak their native tongue is a form of welcoming players from different parts of the world.

As Rinne has stated prior, if you are annoyed by languages other than English, you are free to use /ignore <player> and you will no longer receive chat from them.

People are often ridiculously close-minded and reject outsiders already. Telling people they aren't allowed to use the language they are comfortable with is very unwelcoming and promotes xenophobia. Forcing monoculture isn't the best idea. It limits creativity and we turn away people who's ideas are different than ours instead of getting to enjoy aspects of another way of thinking. Even if they can speak English, and you tell them that's all we allow, then they may be inclined to leave because they feel alienated and you'll never get to know about them or their culture. One of the reasons we play online is to meet new people and share ideas and experiences.
Also, while most of North America is offline late at night, we get lots of European traffic. Even to the point that there are sometimes more players on who speak Dutch than just English. That rule really wouldn't make much sense at that point and would again just push players away rather than being inviting.

gijrijrigj rgij with all that other stuff...the rules are in ENGLISH. the signs are in ENGLISH... IF THEY WANT TO SPEAK THAT STUFF THEY SHOULD GO TO A SERVER THAT SPEAKS THAT STUFF.

    "that stuff"
I am sorry but it is just a different language. I feel like you are not even willing to accept different languages in chat, I could be wrong...
It really sounds like you are only willing to talk to English people. That's completely up to you but in the way you wrote it down it sounds pretty harsh.

Also, just because the owners of a server use one of the most common languages in the world to communicate with players doesn't mean everything has to be in English. Don't you think it would be a bit crazy if you join a worldwide server with lots of different cultures and the only allowed language is English?

Last but not least, there is no rule about only English in mainchat. I don't know where you got that information from.

Signs and rules are in English because it's widely considered the international trade language. However, prohibiting others from speaking comfortably in open chat just because you don't like it is very selfish. As has been stated above, you can /ignore players you don't want to interact with.

"I don't like it, so no one else should do it!"
    See how ridiculous that sounds?

The world is too filled with hate and bias as it is. It's trivial matters like this that divides us all as human beings and it's sad we even have to have this discussion in the first place. AEM has been open to allowing multiple languages in chat for years now and to see it even brought up that we should disallow any language other than English is a step backward away from progress in creating a friendly, open community, free from harassment and the toils of daily life.

I've missed the knowledge of Jerekul :D I vote for multi-language chat. As others have stated, it's very hard to learn a new language for some people and to just say "go to another server if you speak another language" is very silly in my opinion. Again, as others said, just /ignore or /eignore if you don't like to see other languages in chat, I think it's a tad selfish to just want one a language chat. Just my opinion though :p
