My first town was flattened because I saw many other towns flattened I just followed them. If I had it all to do over again I probably wouldn't have flattened it but I think a flattened town caters to a more builder friendly environment and a natural town caters to more of a resident+ environment. Just my opinion.

If you go through JokerTown's portal... You're gonna have a bad time...
JokerTown is a train wreck. It is a a ghost town. It is everything you feared what could happen to your town. -

If you want proof that natural terrain looks really good, find the town of Charcoal, one of @Mardigan_The_Mad's towns. It's a natural mountain w/ a river flowing through. It looks amazing...

Although I don't quite have a town to call my own, I personally think flattened towns are better, mainly for grid systematizing. It takes a bunch of great builders and planners to make a flat, boring place look lively. Or, once it's flattened, you can add your own hills and lakes, and whatever you want to add. It allows for more creativity, in my opinion. But hey, I'm a resident, I may be wrong. -

if you can find a plains biome it can be much easier to flatter. my town is plains and desert plains. there was like 2 tiny sand mountains i had to clear. now im placing dirt :/
