This would not take place of staff, it would just stop swearing from happening. No matter what a Mod does there will always be people that will swear, this plugin can stop that completely.
Censorship plugins don't work at all, users just change how they spell their words, for example, Crap Cr4p Crep Craap Crapp Krap Krep So on so forth
and then it devolves further crup crappers crappy crapples craapplleess staff would constantly have to update the filter, it's more hassle than it's worth
But you know what? All the words they put in will forever be blocked. No more warning for this word, or the next, and so on... Eventually the "bad" words will be so discombobulated no one will ever notice that one guy still trying to bypass the filter.
but just how long will that take? and is that really something we want on ecocitycraft? what words deserves censorship, who is the middleman who decides what's swearing and what isn't
Back when I was GA I remember doing this to some people. If the offenders do it enough when that certain staff is watching chat and/or the staff that relayed the warning out to the offender communicates enough to let other staff know that the next time the offender breaks the rule the following day to punish them, then I'm sure they'll get caught.
Well I suppose you would start at the sailor's dictionary, then go with whichever words are constantly being abused.
insta banning people would kill the server and scare people off. but 1 warnning then a kick then a teamp ban.
I haven't read many of the posts in this thread (I'm in a rush), but I wholeheartedly agree that the warning system is flawed. For example, something like this happens almost daily... [G] (User X): F*** this server! [G] (Moderator: Please dont use this type of language, warned 5 minutes later [G] (User X): F*** this server! You see, warnings don't really show up to the felons, it's not 'in their face'. It's just 1 person saying 'warned'. It's effects are, to be honest underwhelming. Warnings may stop some people but for others it only stalls. I feel as though the staff needs to be a bit harsher to ensure that the they get the 'justice' part of their job done. We definitely need a new system or at least rework warnings.
Would this affect all chat? Swearing in certain channels (e.g. password-protected town channels) is allowed so long as it is not directed at another player.
Indeed, so far it would appear as if people wish for warnings to be recorded, and carry over day by day.
It's horrible, there are way to many warnings. The reason why there are so many repeat offenders are because the punishments are "Forum warning Issued". That means nothing to a lot of players. "Player Warned via forum PM" Ohhhhhh you showed them!! -.- They are weak punishments.

Forum warnings actually drive most of the players who get them crazy. Why? Because they end in 3 day forum bans if you get too many. Now, I suppose it is my turn to weigh in on this. dork1877 once upon a time in a land far far away, I suggested fining people, just as you are. I was a super mod at the time and I acknowledged that only a certain very small group of people, should have access to that command. The thing is, if we make it something that is discretionary I could be like /fine dork 100,000. Which comes to the issue of small and large fines. If we make fines too big, we scare off the new players. If we make fines too small, the upper class users brush them off like they are dust. We could have a tiered fine system based off the users balance... Yet if we did that the users who are committing crimes could just put their money in a sign before we get around to calculating their fine. If we could figure out the minute details and Andrew agreed of it, this system might be a good idea. JerichoKross I don't feel like spending the rest of my ECC Life updating the swear filter. The fact is there are some chats in which it is allowed and some words which we allow to be said sparingly. I don't think we should trust a computer with that. knears2000 I'm not sure jail is the best idea. Jail is far more likely to make players rage quit to be honest. Why? Because unlike temp bans they are force to be on ECC while waiting for their sentence to end. I don't want to lose players because we gave them 12 hours of sitting in a box. @Everyone I noticed a massive amount of people wanting warnings to roll over every day or so... How do? I am just curious if anyone has any suggestions for a system/plugin that would allow this.
Before I came to ecc I worked.. Elsewhere... As a moderator, I was told directly by the owner that we could not just kick people because they did something wrong, we were not aloud to kick people unless they were doing something that was way over the line for example racial slurs, repetitive swearing, repetitive scamming, its like when you get taken to jail you dont get 20 years for calling somone an idiot you get a warning, a fine, and you go back about your bussiness.
