I just do '/wild land' until I find an Extreme Hills biome, as that's where I can find emeralds, to maximize my profits. Unfortunately today's run was mostly mined where I was, and I only had a small portion of the biome to mine. Hence the measly $12k profit today.

Nice run! I really suggest getting the Eff5 enchantment with fortune to maximize your profits! Keep up the mining!
*- Todays Run With an Eff7 -* I recently bought an Eff7 pickaxe, and I figured I'd do a calculated run to see how much money I can make off it. These are my results after an hour of mining: 521 Iron Ore @$7.25 each -- $3777.25 578 Redstone Ore @$8.00 each -- $4624.00 116 Gold Ore @$11.00 each -- $1276.00 91 Diamond Ore @$59.00 each -- $5369.00 61 Lapis Ore @$49.00 each -- $2989.00 19 Emerald Ore @$92.00 each -- $1748.00 90 Coal Ore @0.85 each -- $76.50 Total Profits: $19,859.75 ECD, rounded to a total of about $20k ECD. Overall, buying an eff7 is worth it. As you can see, it makes around 20k an hour, possibly more (depending on mining resets, using fortune to get XP, etc). But, after all, I know I made a good choice on buying it, I got my money's worth.
As of now, no, I have not been. I have just been selling more ores. But I will start to fortune all ores soon. .
