What part of EcoCityCraft is this suggestion for:
    Website & Forums
    Short title for your suggestion:
Archiving the General Section of Forums
    What are you suggesting:
    That the:
    Market and Ads
    Tutorials
    And Competitions

Section of the forum is archived to completely refresh the forums in said areas.
The majority of the tutorials on ecc are outdated and don't help anyone, especially on new reset and the development and evolution of ecc over the past 10 years.
Competitions can be cleaned up so that new open competitions ate the only ones in the section. All other closed competitions can be moved to a completed section to keep things clean and easier to see what events/comps are going on.
Marketplace and Ads can also be archived for a clean slate for people to keep up to date with what is being bought and sold.

Old topics can be moved back into that forum if asked by the original poster for all three sections.
Why is this a good addition for EcoCityCraft?:
I think now is the perfect time to move all these threads into a sub forum to completely clean up these sections that have 10 years of topics that aren't relevant or completed.
    Other information:

    Plugin or custom addition:

    One suggestion per form:
    I Understand.

Would this be more of a continuous thing like the BA/C and Contract forums where threads would be archived when done with, or more of a one-off like with apps?

I think you could do what you said for something like competitions from this point moving forward.
But I think first and foremost the section needs refreshing and archived. And then other guidelines if the administration wants them can be added to maintain certain sections.

I'd say archive it all. Every thread that is created pre-ECC 2.0 should be separated and we all start from scratch.

I'm going to -1 this without prejudice, maybe go as far as to do a soft +0.

While I get the reasoning for the suggestion, some threads shouldn't be archived because they are still relevant or the original owner of the thread might still want to use it for ECC 2.0. For example, my build projects thread is still active and will be active in ECC 2.0. Another famous example is the Staff Guidebook, which is still active as fk, even though ECC 2.0.

I think maybe a better idea would be to archive all threads from general discussion that hasn't been touched in over a year, and any that hasn't been touched between 6-12 months should have the original poster messaged to assess if they want to keep it. And of course, any general discussion thread that is locked should be moved.

That might be convoluted to do, but the bottomline is not every thread in general discussion needs to be archived. Plus, some thread owners might not want them to be archived and might have plans to use them for ECC 2.0 (I personally have at least two, maybe three that I would love to keep off archive since I will still use them).

Understandable that some threads are still active but just archive everything and if someone wants their thread to be continued, you can message an admin to either move the thread out of archive or duplicate the thread. I feel it would clear up a ton of unneeded clutter for the new launch. Clearing things up now and giving the 1-2 weeks we have before main reopens to those that are still active enough to want to move any still active threads back out of archive should be sufficient.

Honestly the more I think about it...

I really just don't see the point. An active forum and community is ultimately one of the servers biggest draws, and if we just hide away all the old threads, even our most lively forums will look really dead.

It just feels like giving up a major amount of character for like, idk, marginal improvements in organization

You just said an active forum. Please share an active tutorial currently? If someone who was looking for a tutorial on something ecc related. They would simply trawl through the section and get nowhere. What's the point in making a new tutorial when you also think there probably a tutorial for it. Or the fact no one has posted there in months so you aren't sure what's going on with the section.
The posts aren't being deleted. Just the non relevant ones being archived. The post counts still stays showing the activity and people can go through the archived sections of they want to, knowing its outdated info.. The classified ads for example. You have pinned topics that haven't been used in months. Read some of them and see howr relevant they are compared to the last few weeks of main.

You should probably read a suggestion all the way through before commenting. In the original post. There was nothing to suggest that the general discussion or the media section would be archived. I didn't mention these for the very reason you stated. And also went on to explain that a archived thread could easily be brought back by a staff member of the original poster messages them...

If any of you know me just a bit which id say probably everyone on this thread does to some degree. I'm a huge fan of memories and old posts and threads. I also love the forum and want it to be a section of knowledge that newer players can come onto and see up to date and knowledge from the player base at the clock of a button.

The competition/market and tutorial section so not do that in their current state. And archiving them with the option of bringing back your topic would be a fresh clean slate to start ecc 2.0 with.

Maybe tutorials don't fall under "active", but classifieds are definitely one of the most active discussion forums (not counting this one).

I'm not here trying to argue that most of these posts are relevant. I'll concede that they're not. The classified stickies definitely need some care and I support stricter guidelines on stickies.

But pages and pages of threads, tons of which aren't relevant anymore? That's just what forums look like. Every internet forum I've used (and that's quite a bit at this point), looks like this.

I dont think we're going to agree here because we're both debating things you can't accurately quantify -- an amount of additional ease of use for an amount of basically sentimental value.

I just don't think what would be gained, after the overhead and the loss, would really be worthwhile.

I did, and I thought when you said "Archive the General Section of the Forums," that General Discussion was also included (I saw the others, but thought I read that General Discussion was included)

To partially change my response and rating, I still am going to +0 this for similar reasons as when I thought you included General Discussion as well. Using Ads as an example now, some people might want to keep their original ad as I can guarantee that there is at least one ad/player who will continue using their ad thread in ECC 2.0. I will be using my ECCMuseum buy thread in ECC 2.0 again, and it would be beneficial to keep the original thread active instead of making a completely new one.

Tutorials you make a great point that they don't seem relevant anymore, but there are some with at least shreds of useful information. I know VMR and SB tutorials will still be useful at this point, and possibly macros. Idk tbh. I know personally I won't be disappointed if this thread gets archived.

Competitions I need to check again. I don't remember if there are any that are still relevant for Clar or not.

+0 the only one that I personally will care about is the ads, but I could kind of care less if the other two get archived or not. And it's going to be a +0 so long as General Discussion doesn't get archived.

^^What vid said...its simple few buttons to have a staff member move your post from archive to not archive. I personally don't see how all the classified ads for all these things that nobody has are going to be relevant in 2.0. Posting a new thread or having a staff member bring your thread back to life seems like a valid option.

keeping threads to make the forums look active isn't my idea of an inviting community... if we are an "active forum" then new threads that are relevant to 2.0 will fill those that are being vacated.. if we don't have new threads/actions then maybe we just aren't an "active forum" with character anymore and we are trying to hold onto something that we just aren't anymore.

+1 I think the organization & relevant information is something that will be more beneficial to players as they join ECC 2.0, and tbh less of an eyesore to the forums. It's not like the suggestion is to delete all data and restart forums.

We won't be archiving the forum in this way at this time.
