I asked the question back in 2011 why trade chat was a dark gray, and the answer I was given was " Since the channel is forced (back then donors couldn't leave it either) it is a dark gray so it is easier to tune out." Now our donors can leave it, so that reasoning has lost some of its effect, there is a new issue that did not effect trade chat at the time, and that is the macros. Trade chat is full of automated messages, and if the chat was any color other than gray, I am sure more users would leave it than users that currently do. If there are fewer users in the channel, it doesn't matter what color it is, or what you are selling, there are less people listening to the channel. As for this question, I am only quoting you as I don't feel the answer you were given was correct. Our donors can leave all chat channels on the server. Non-donors can leave all channels except for Local, Trade, Alert (but that is listen only), and the other world channels (but those only apply when you are in another world). Also, I would recommend people stop posting in all caps, as it violates our general forum rules, and if I see any more in this thread, I will need to be issuing proper forum warnings.
-1 trade chat is the most posted in, making it a more visable colour would just spam our screens with something we would not like
This is news to me. I've read the entire rule list like 3 or 4 times and never ever came across something that said i could leave auction or global. It's a complete shock. Thanks for clarifying.
I personally think this, 3/4 of the time, auction isn't used when trade is, why not just switch the color of the channels.
Jason I'm not implying my idea to be good, I'm implying it to be used because everyone was talking about this switch for a long time and I'm starting to agree. But yes it is tough luck if it passes, there is nothing that can be done but to put in another suggestion for a switch back. Colors such as darker but brighter than grey would be better for advertising. It all comes down to opinion for what we like best.
I believe they are both used the same, or there is a slight increase in one or the other. If you watch closely, you can see global empty, and trade chat just rattling on in the background, and sometimes trade is slow and global is a madhouse.
That's my point. In a big mess like global chat such as the "madhouse" that is going on in there, trade chat will stand out in all of that.
Yes but when global is empty I don't want to be attacked by bright chat. Like i said earlier. It's easy not to read it, and it's easy to read it. I prefer it that way.
Uh yeah I have a life so I'm not on all day. And why everyone is getting that it has to be bright is beyond me, I just think a more noticeable color would be better.
Yeah I see what you mean... But it might get really nasty since you have it on a black background here on the forums. It wouldn't blend as well in-game.
-1, it is gray for a reason. As this is an economy server, most people sell/buy goods, flooding the trade chat, which is gray so it will not be that noticeable.
