I know the cost of multiple towns rises with each new town, but once someone has the max towns they just sit there, even if that player is banned. My suggestion is that a weekly fee is added, and taken from the mayor's bank account. If the fee isn't paid, the most recent town reverts back to wild. The fee would rise with the addition of each town. Perhaps something like 1000$ a week for the first town, and then town number * 500 for each additional town, so 1000+ 1000 + 1500 + 2000 + 2500 etc. 8 towns would not be obtainable without working with others.
I was also wondering if something like rent could be introduced for people who buy plots in towns. Instead of a once off payment, they get charged a certain amount of rent a week. If the mayor of the town charges too much, people wont buy plots there. This would be in keeping with real life economy, as even after people buy a house or land, they still pay fee's.
Both these would probably require plugin's though, but i still feel they're both nice idea's ^^

I dont think the town thing should happen. The mayor might not have the balance for the town or might spend it on somthing else, for example a pixel art gallery.
If it is a nice town such as Berlin and it was to be reverted back to wild that wouldnt be very cool D:. Or a pixel art gallery, all that money spent on wool gone.
Also the user might not have the balance, and go on vacation for two weeks give or take and would lose their towns. -
Highly against town ownership fees - that would cause tons of problems and no one would ever want to buy a town.
As for rent on plots: As a Mayor, you can have that as a rule in your town. Residents of your town could have to pay you weekly/monthly/bi-monthly - whatever you choose. If they don't, you could remove them from your town for a week, month, forever... etc. -
As Moo said here, you can charge rent depending on the Mayors decision, as when I first started on Ecc, I bought a plot in Blue Coast, it costs 1.5k at first, then 500 every tuesday, it's the mayors choice, and if not payed it can be punishable, if choosen to be.

Just skimmed the other post so dont know if it was mentioned by just because a mayor/president is gone dont mean there isnt other property owners living in the town who would be very upset to lose plots they paid for just because a mayor/president got banned or decided to take a long break.
Not to mention its already expensive to simply get the permissions to build a town let alone add buildings and other changes to that. I would leave the server if this was ever added since most the time i dont have any money cause im always spending it just to make my town cooler and id end up losing my town which i worked very hard for because i couldnt basically pay lot rent on it. This would also jack up plot prices and most likely make mayors/presidents charge like a rental fee for all people building in their town just to keep the town open which would screw the economy up huge! -
About the rent part:
Someone suggested earlier a /mail pay [amount] [message] sort of thing, so I was thinking that would be how the rent would work. Ex: /mail pay 500 Here's my rent!
And for co-mayors: /mail pay 500 Just sold a plot!
