I can't believe you really think that a basement spawn shop can profit as much as a top tier one. that's a very odd point of view.
Did you do a survey of shoppers to be able to say 'most players know how to shop around'? Where is your data?
Just from experience runnign a shop, I can tell you that they don't know how to shop around. I can be selling stuff for less than every shop in the entire market and not sell any for days while others do sell some at a higher price.

Ok well let me rephrase that then....you missed out on getting a top tier shop and now want those that have them to pay more per week. Would you have ever suggested this if you were currently the owner of a top tier shop? I highly doubt you would have, which is the point I'm trying to make. You can't have one so those that do should have to pay more to make it more "fair".

I can make up things about you too, if you'd like. I have made any points that I am going to make, so I'll leave the thread alone now.
EDIT: I thought I had been reasonable by listening to arguments and changing my suggestion all the way down to a 10k/5k/1k split of rents. My main point is that something that is more valuable should cost more, and that it is too easy to hold onto shops forever when someone doesn't really have any interest in being active in the shop. My main problem are shops where there is almost nothing for sale and a lot of empty signs. -
It doesn't really matter where you are in my opinion if you aggressively advertise your store, and it also helps if you can teleport people to your store.

I like this idea. Because of the layout and number of shops, players will not typically browse all shops. Maybe they do, but personally, I give up before completing one side because it is just too expansive and an inconvenience.

If it doesn't matter where your shop is, then why are all the top floor ones taken and none of the underground ones are taken?
I'll buy an underground one and then tradee you the underground one plus 20k additional for your shop. Since the shops are equal, you'd do that right?
Advertising in trade and tping people to your spawn shop takes time and time wasted is money lost. Even if someone did those things, they're still not going to get the same amount of traffic as a top floor store doing zero advertising. -
The basement shops were really great before the market expansion. I had #13 and could not keep it stocked. After the market expansion, I couldn't sell anything (even items that were guaranteed lowest price on server.) I tested a few items and basically made them completely free and still no players. With the amount of time wasted on advertising and etc, one could very easily make way more money just farming. EcoCityCraft; Hardly, more like FarmCityCraft.

There is a plethora of examples of people who owned spawn shops in less desirable locations who turned huge profits through advertising (KMaxwell for one). -
