Just noticed I never got around to a further response...
Lack of sleep will obviously make you weak; if you are weak-willed, and give into sleep, you will experience withdrawal symptoms when you try to become strong again and forsake sleep. It is overcoming the weakness brought on by lack of sleep which makes one truly strong.
By your logic, lack of heroin also makes you weak. You could take heroin, then stop taking it, and feel symptoms of weakness, but what truly makes you weak is giving into the craving, be it for heroin of sleep.
