The Fires of Hestia


The Cathedral of Hestia was a glorious building, raised at the start of the Virgon occupation of Tauron. The first of its kind, acting as a centrepiece for the city from which the rest of Tauron was slowly built around, similar cathedrals would later be erected in all of Virgon’s conquered cities. Though the city experienced many troubles over the years of the occupation, the Cathedral always withheld. Dedicated to the Lord Hestia, Patron of Virgon, the cathedral was more than a landmark, it was a subtle reminder to all those who lived in its shadow; Virgon was in charge.

The Virgon Rebellion, in which the people of Tauron finally liberated themselves from their masters, lasted only 4 days. Though impenetrable to outside forces, the city of Tauron was not prepared for an uprising from within. Vastly outnumbered, those loyal to Virgon fell back to their last line of defence; the cathedral. Locking themselves inside, they soon found themselves trapped.

The summer of the uprising had been long and dry, and by the time the fires had started, there was no escape. The cathedral – the building that had marked the rule of the Virgon Empire – ended in a glorious inferno, and too with it the occupation.

It is said the the fires burned for weeks before finally dying out, and every year, fires are lit throughout Tauron during the summer months in memory of this historic event. Though the event, which has become known as ‘The Midsummer Festival’, has become simply another celebration for many, with citizens from throughout the 12 kingdoms flocking to enjoy the variety of festivities, the event remains an important tradition to many Tauron citizens.

Today, the remnants of the great cathedral still stand… a reminder of the price of freedom.
