I'm wondering why anyone has argued "it will just bring out the trolls..." That's practically saying "I am too lazy to moderate the rule breakers or they're my friends" or "I know the Staff is super lazy, doesn't care, or have biases." Which is lol-worthy. And very sad. It's a terrible argument. Dish out warnings, kicks, and bans as appropriate. Simple. Clean out the toxic and troll people. Also, it's insanely insensitive to outright ban the usage or discussion of sexuality. That does SIGNIFICANTLY more harm to someone than another person saying "you're gay." Like... f*cking seriously. Warning someone for mentioning their sexuality or looking for a support system and friends like them is... so, so, so much worse. Don't forget, too - that sexuality is family-friendly in the sense that a huge chunk of the world accepts it, discusses it with children and in sex-ed, and kids even see same-sex couples. (America is one of the only big places that has issues with it, so far as to censor it when other countries show that it's normal and accepted.) Sexuality =/= the acts of having intercourse or anything else - it's simply a preference. What if two married women wanted to talk about their parenting, their child, how things might have been difficult for them - but then Staff outright and say "you can't discuss that." Because, you know, their sexuality plays some part, and APPARENTLY that is upsetting users. That's excluding people even from talking about something as simple as parenthood or hardships. It's not only more insulting than "you're gay," it's just...really insensitive. Either be fully equal or don't be equal at all. Ban any discussion of sexuality NO MATTER THE SEXUALITY, or don't ban it at all. Treat it like any other "keep it civil" topic. Gets into gritty intercourse details? Obviously, shut it down. Someone talking about their significant other, who happens to be the same gender (and they may clarify)? Let it be, who cares. Some of the posts on this thread are immensely upsetting and insensitive. (I understand that some didn't intend for it, but it exists.) I fit very much into the giant LGBTQ+ spectrum, and common insults like "wow that's really gay" are so tiny compared to being excluded and treated like a disease. And I'm not even that sensitive to this stuff - but I have some friends who would have mental breakdowns and triggered by the fact that they can't even be themselves or mention one tiny fact about themselves without getting in trouble.
meh, ban everything or nothing, but united is correct, why does it matter, there is realistically no need to say it..
gay gay gay gay gay, me saying these words doesn't hurt anyone. The word gay means nothing, it's the context that it is used in.
I agree that it's the context and the time that it is used in but with people using these words ecocitycraft would lose lots of players and would stop having so many new players still -1
If staff actually were lazy, we wouldn't be banning discussion of things related to this in the first place. You're calling measures to prevent trolling lazy, which simply isn't true and it's quite the opposite actually. Your sexual orientation is a very personal matter that most people only really share with their friends and family - It really isn't meant to be shared in a public chat room for a gaming server. It's completely fine to discuss it in private with your friends online, but not in global where many users would feel uncomfortable - It really just a private matter, so keep it that way. Even if you're looking for support from the LGBTQ+ community, a gaming community just isn't the right place to go for that. No? Two woman are more than welcome to talk about their difficulties parenting. It's just that the discussion regarding sexual orientation alone should be banned - It's fine to say that so and so are together and has always been that way - It really doesn't relate to sexual orientation; It's literally just discussion pertaining to a family. That's how I believe things should be enforced. Discussions relating to sexual orientation should be outright banned. That isn't the point. You've always been allowed to talk about your significant other. Just not engage in discussion which is completely related to sexual orientation. You really aren't being excluded or treated like a disease though; No one is. I just find it best to ban discussion relating to sexual orientation altogether than allow it. No, it isn't "stigma" nor "discrimination" - It's literally taking in account the fact that your sexual orientation is a very private matter that can be a very touchy subject to some.
-1 I would think openly discussing your sexuality would fall under the whole "touchy subject" rule, regardless of the word you use to describe it. IMO I think if someone uses the word gay in a negative way, they should be warned because they are misusing the word, but if someone announces they are gay/straight, they should be warned to drop the touchy subject. I get where you guys are coming from though, I just personally see no need for people to proclaim their sexuality on a server full of families trying to have fun.
What's wrong with gay words? it's great to be happy! In all seriousness, discrimination upon sexuality (and just about any kind of discrimination) is childish in this period of political correctness. ECC is server that (treats itself like it) is politically correct, so this is clearly the way to go. Then again, sexuality isn't something to be discussed as well, so... (please no kick me) +1
