i agree but know if this does happen will be difficult for andrew and here are the reasons

1. If you already own a portal there is 2 signs that must be changed
2. If your town has been named lets say welner then andrew must change it to lets say hipostic XD then he pretty much has to remove the faction/locked area and re do it all and i know that making towned areas sucks

 

Or he could give SMods the power to do it because it shouldn`t be too hard :p

no he does not have to remove the entire town and re-create it, I have played with that plugin and you can just rename the town.

 

1) More work for Andrew. Price would end up being really high, no one would change their town name.

2) There are already several towns with the same name. Too many towns to check before changing a town name...
...and there are no town forums, so there is no way [easy] to check.

3) Probably plugin-related and/or 'personal' reasons why Andrew took town name changes out.

Badly as I would like to change my town name, I highly doubt it will be an option again. :/

 

+1 to this. Tried to name my town 'Underworld', but got stuck with 'Underspace'. :| A name change would be nice.

As much as we have Game Admins, and as much as Andrewkm trusts them, from me knowing him back when I was staff, he wont ever allow anyone to have such powers, even though he trusts the Game Admins a ton. I know it doesn't seem that big to just change a name, but Andy prefers to have such powers to him self.

Overlooking this post, II understand if it could be confussing, I just don't see it in the future. Though it would be awesome.

 

1) As Jets said, Andrew keeps those powers to himself. That is giving another huge ability to 'mess with the server.' He would only ever give it to GameAdmins, and even they are busy or semi-inactive. There is only four of them last I checked, and only two are actually active. They probably have SM duties still, too.

2) No.

Region info may not work when it comes to multiple towns sharing a name. For all we know, the towns who already share the same name could make /region info show nothing/error or randomly pick one of them. Includes further confusion with town commands. And I know there are several towns sharing the same name; town subforums proved so. A lot of them were old and never recreated, but I am pretty sure there were some (often the unpopular/dead ones) that overlapped/underlapped another town with the same name.

3) Zwunder is probably right, but anyone who's been around Andrew's chatting should know that our plugins can be fancy and updated sooner than others. From what I've picked up from hanging in IRC, it sounds like we use some of the "obvious" plugins, but with.. tweaks and fanciness that are different than the average that people can use. I may be wrong, but Andrew sounds like he puts more personal twists on the server than others do, lol.

I would still reallylike town name changes back, I just don't think Andrew'll go for it very easily. It seems that the reasons are similar or the same to why he won't transfer towns, and those reasons were never really given. :/ I want to know why tow transfers and name changes were taken out... but usually if he won't say why to something, it's extremely difficult to get those things back. Usually after a while he tells people why he changed something, but I still haven't seen him explain why he took those two options out.
