Suggestion to make a new chat channel

But these debates don't have to be about things not able to be said in global. It could simply be a heated discussion that many users want to attend but would make a ruckus out of global. Not all discussions are inappropriate.

 

Discussing politics is against the rules in all global chats. It doesn't have to be an inappropriate discussion about a political topic, all political topics are against the rules.

 

I feel as though you are associating the word 'debate' with politics. It doesn't have to be just politics. It can be anything you want to debate over. The act of debating is having an intelligent argument.

 

That's probably true however I do not agree with having a debate channel at all. Staff already has to watch over every channel, including spawn locals, so adding another channel where anger and rage run high will not be productive at all to staff. Creating a headache for staff in order to satisfy only 3 users (knears, unitedstates, yourself) seems extremely counterproductive.

If anything, I would rather have a debate thread that encourages strong arguments. Adding one thread in offtopic about debate, or any world topic, does not create too much of a headache for staff as we can just thread ban troublemakers. Two lines of text is far from enough to create strong arguments so being allowed to debate on the forums would be a better idea. That said, this is an economy server so we don't at all need to debate. It would just be something that few people use.

 

First of all, it ain't for just three people. I know that one. Suggestions aren't just made and everyone has to put their say into it. Some don't know about this at all yet.

"Creating a headache for staff in order to..." This simply isn't true. From what I have heard, all of the staff don't get nearly enough work around here, the lower ranking ones. While that may be rumor, every rumor has a hint of truth at them. It's a staff job to moderate chat. Instead of moderating a global chat, does it really take that much time and effort to moderate a debate channel? When there is about five or so staff online, I find that a lot of times some of them don't even see some of the things being said in global... that''s something else entirely.

Threads are boring. It's more fun to chat while farming or doing something else. And two lines of text can mean a lot. I know that I am able to use it effectively. That's why Neptune made the [ENTER] key; to allow us to finish our sentences on the next chat!

 

I agree that staff really does not need any extra headaches.
I disagree that it would be for only 3 users as Mendiboi can't resist a good debate that I have ever seen
I like the debate thread, however, thread banning seems to be harder than you make it sound or there would be many trolls never allowed to comment on Bans/Appeals over and over and over again.
And finally, Dr. your comment:
"The act of debating is having an intelligent argument." If that is truly the case, it normally is tolerated in General Chat - however, I have seen very few debates that are anything close to being intelligent unfortunately and why they are not allowed.

It is much harder to thread ban trolls in thread after thread but if debates were confined to one thread it would be one ban and they are gone. No chance for them to troll in that thread again.

"one ban and they are gone" refers to trolling, not an actual argument. If they are just posting complete offtopic nonsense then they have no interest in debate so we can thread ban them.

Most are. The internet requires no education or manners to use. Therefore it brings the worst of people. Which is why I am against debate on a family minecraft server. Wanna debate on reddit? Go ahead, since that's what it was made for.

 

Obviously you're oblivious to any intellectual websites that are out there. There are so many it's unbelievable!

And this is a family minecraft server? It's advertised as one? What is the definition of a family minecraft server?

 

A family server is one where I can go to to not hear about other people's political views and see people get into pointless and over-dramatic arguments over things that don't even have anything to do with minecraft.
This is a minecraft server, if you want to shove your opinions in other people's faces then please find another server that will let you do that.

 

It's incredible this view that's been all forced upon you guys. We should be able to discuss what we want, and if we can have a private channel with an application, that would be a good idea.

 

Then by all means, buy your own private channel and talk about whatever you want, but don't suggest a global channel for you to just use as a bombing ground to drop your political ideals on the rest of us.

 

You're missing the point. I'm suggesting we create a private channel, with a password that you apply for. The application is free and anyone can apply. You don't wanna talk about it or hear it either? Then don't apply. Simple as that.

 

Definition of Family

So i dont think debating, politics, religion are not suitable for kids as they have yet to learn and understand some of the discussion and debates that go on in global recently.

I dunno who you heard that from but i hardly play ecc anymore after being promoted as staff...

I am +1/-1 for this,
I am very open and encourage ideas that players want, there are a few concerns that i will always have no matter what counter argument you give (see debating here )

1. It will be near impossible to make rules for this channel which would lead to a lot of grey area and conflict with other general rules of the server because of people getting angry and frustrated
2. I worry this channel would be impossible to moderate because of the above rule, making some staff let more go compared to others, which will lead to people getting angry if someone isnt warned but someone else is for the same thing.
3. I would worry that it would and will put some people off playing the server, if people can see it and if the ebate spills out into global. You say it wont (but look at sg)

BUT

I don't see with enough support, that it cannot be trialed to test and see how it goes.

I personally wouldnt use this channel but id love to see someone set up a debate night or something on the teamspeak channel, with a few people leading the discussion and maybe a mod or two sitting in on the convosation to keep the peace if things get a little heated.
As long as you give the staff a heads up about the topic so we can clear it and make sure its suitable for debating over, then i think that would work really nicely.

 

You have every right to place a town and make a chat channel called debate. Since it would be private, you get to set the rules. Also would prevent staff from having to babysit the channel more than other channels.

 

I shouldn't have to pay $300k+ to talk...
