Minecraft Name:
Dr_Dragon_Slayer
Suggestion:
Make staff stop saying 'please' on ban appeals/complaints .
Reason:
It makes you guys look utterly helpless and pathetic. You're in charge. It makes you guys look weak. Yes, to a slight degree you can say please and thank you, but not when you're telling somebody to do something or stop something. Quite frankly, a player should be intimidated by a staff member when they are doing an appeal. This ain't Wal-Mart Customer Service.
Other Information:
Hope this suggestion will actually be looked at and commented by somebody who can actually do something about this. That would mean SA+.

I agree with this. Manners are great, but assertion is key.-

The owner of the company I work for has around 50 part/full time employees spread across four locations. She doesn't have to baby or be polite to any of us, we either do what she says or we won' be asked to come back at some point. Yet she says please and thank you when giving us instructions to do something. How many times do you think any of my co-workers or I have decided not to listen because she was polite? (none) Basic manners aren't a sign of weakness, they are a sign you are able to be civil even to your lessors.

With further explanation boiling down to "Quite frankly, a player should be intimidated by a staff member" Which is more or less just wrong. We don't have a monopoly on minecraft servers, or even economy ones. If you intimidate a user they have a thousand other selections to choose from where they can find better treatment. Respect is the goal standard here, not fear. After all, it's not like staff loses anything by being polite. Either the user being warned is going to listen and have a good day, or they will be punished. That doesn't change if staff was polite or not. What would change is the chance of a punished user returning, which is key to establishing a solid player base.-

I do not think we are "babying" users. There are times when we are more polite, like to basic offenders (first timers) and times when we are harsher. I'm not going to be rude just because someone broke a rule. That's not who I am, so it's not going to happen. You can't make a suggestion for people to change their personality.

You know what my Uncle tells me? No matter how trivial it may seem, you always say please and thank you, no matter what. "Weak" "pathetic" "helpless".... All I have to say is lol.
It would be nice if this suggestion had any evidence, facts, literally ANYTHING to back it up besides a forum lurker (?) saying staff looks weak in ban appeals. I don't see a need to stop this, it's polite. Things get handled. -

Pretty sure all you guys are taking this the wrong way. I'm not against politeness. I said that in my original suggestion. What I don't like is a command being given and have it 'fluffed' up a bit. To me it just seems wrong.

Yes, that's a very true and valid point there. I was just trying to point out one can be assertive while being polite. -

Just because someone has broken a rule, doesnt mean he/she gets to be treated less politely in my opinion. Believe it or not, from my experience of moderating, users were more likely to listen to and follow the staff instructions when they felt like they were respected. After all, staff are part of the community and the staff not being permitted to talk in a polite manner (even if when they are communicating with rule-breakers) and the users becoming afraid of them is not an ideal picture of a community I have in mind.

It is not within my nature to act like this. Manners cost nothing and its nice to be nice. Like clou said, Staff do not "baby" users, we do tend to be lighter on first time offenders, and harsher on those who are repeated offenders, so I don't think that will ever change.
