I agree with priMELval, I hate looking through chat and wait for it.... BAM! Someone spoiled something for you! It's extremely annoying that some people are rude to spoil movies when you politely ask them not to. Everybody was asking in chat not to spoil the new Star Wars The Force Awakens and then 2 users spoiled it. I'm a huge fan of star wars and I noticed that a lot of the users on this server are too. Please make this illegal to spoil a series unless a certain user asked, and if they ask, that they are messaged what happen, not told publically in any chat. Thank you.

How far would that rule go? Would it also apply to movies which have a plot twist that caused them to become famous on the internet, just to name one of countless possible scenarios? If it wouldn't apply, where would we draw the line?

It is basically incredibly hard to define the difference, making it very hard to handle ingame.

Not to mention that I still fail to understand the problem with spoilers.
Then again, you have just read the opinion of somebody who reads Wikipedia articles for plot summaries.

I understand the sentiment, and I would like this as well. But how would this be implemented? What can and cannot be discussed?
The lines are already blurry enough with the touchy subjects rule.. Your suggestion will just complicate things. It's not a feasible thing to do.

Free speech doesn't apply to privately owned entities, like ECC. It literally just means that the government can't prosecute you for what you say - Doesn't mean you can't be denied jobs or kicked off an online community based on what you've said before.

 

United, you clearly didn't read my post. I was simply stating that the purpose of this thread is to have a clause implemented into the rules that specifically prohibits the speaking of a movie. That's Orwellian if you ask me, and I was simply saying that this person wants a shield around them because they don't want people talking about something.

Chat rules exist for a very good reason, and that is to keep order on the server - Global is supposed to be meant for everyone, not just people who want to spoil movies.

I don't disagree with your opposition of the suggestion, as I do also agree, it'll be very hard and nor worth it for the effort it'd take to enforce. As far as your Orwellian statement goes, in a sense all MC servers are Orwellian, lol. Everything is logged and tracked and you must obey the rules/laws the owner puts forth - Something with every MC server, and I don't think the term "Orwellian" is supposed to apply to online communities either, especially given George Orwell died in 1950, many decades before the internet, lol.

The cartoon I posted wasn't directed at you, as I don't see you spoiling movies or anything like that, lol. It was simply just saying that the rights of freedom of speech don't apply to privately owned entities - Not a shit post, at all, for the matter.
