A lot of people on EcoCityCraft post threads in the General Discussion for their anniversaries on ECC (1 year, 2 year, etc.) While this isn't a bad thing, there are often a lot of them taking up space in between threads actually more directly related to Minecraft.

I am suggesting adding a subforum within General Discussion for these threads to be placed, similar to how the "Introduce Yourself" forum is. People will still see the threads, which is what thread-creators want, because it'd be a subforum within the most-used and most-viewed forum here. Plus, all the anniversary threads are then neatly categorized and free up room in General Discussion.

This would require the moving of all current anniversary threads to this new subforum, but if we did it for "Introduce Yourself," why can't we do it again?

Feel free to leave feedback below.

I like this idea- moving the threads doesn't take too long- about 15 seconds at most.

If its added, i dont see the need to move the old topics though,

If not like anniversary topics are as important as say contracts and what not which required sorting and moving.

There's a lot of things we have on ECC that are "not needed." Did we need a separate forum section for "introduce yourself" ? No, but it makes the rest of General Discussion look much more cleaned-up and organized.
This is true. I was just guessing they'd move some anniversary threads like they did with the Introduce Yourself forum, but yeah it's not too important whether they do or not.

+1. These are common enough to warrant their own section, and while they aren't urgently needed, they can aid in keeping the sections clean, as you've said yourself.

6 of the 27 newest threads in "Global Discussion" are anniversary threads. +1, wouldn't hurt :) :penguin:

I don't see why, if people want to, let them.

That's the kind of thing you get when you have a community, I don't think it needs a separate section.

It's not a lot of work to do, and it makes General look a lot nicer.

One one hand, it would be neater.

On the other hand, it does seem to fit pretty neatly under the topic of "general discussion" already anyway...

Why do you think people celebrating how long they've been with the community looks far worse than them not doing so?

I don't see why we'd want to put them somewhere else. They look fine. Nothing super relevant happens in General anyway.

What about "Introduce Yourself" then...? There were a lot of those kinds of threads taking up space in General, and the separate section was added for them. The community should pay attention to threads where new players introduce themselves to the rest of ECC, and we've done a good job of that overall, in my opinion. I still check the "Introduce Yourself" forum, and General is much more clean with all those threads of a similar type in a separate section.

Same for anniversary threads. Out of fifty threads currently on the first page of General, nine are about player anniversaries. And check this out - right before we added the "Introduce Yourself" section almost a year ago, only one out of fifty on the first page of General at the time was introduction-related, versus eight anniversary threads (http://web.archive.org/web/20150408...tycraft.com/forum/forums/general-discussion.6).

So if introduction threads warranted their own section then, anniversary threads surely do now as well. There's so many of them sitting around in General, and while it is nice to see others' achievements in their time on ECC, there's just more important, on-topic things General is and should be used for. (For this exact reason, I chose to put my 1 year thread in Off-Topic a while back, rather than General.) That's why a subforum in General for anniversary threads would be nice - people enjoy reading those threads, and rather than taking up space among things more directly related to Minecraft and concerning more players, they'd be easily accessible within their own section, people are still gonna see them, and there's absolutely plenty of them for there to be a section.

Oh yeah, as for "nothing really relevant happens in General anyway" ... yeah, a few threads (other than anniversaries) could be placed in other sections, but... Staff Guidebook? The EULA thread? EcoCityPet? IRC bridges? Those are pretty important, to name a few on the front page of General right now. I'd say that threads concerning the largest portion of the ECC population, other than those in News/Announcements, Contracts, Applications, etc. are found in General Discussion for sure.

Firstly - I don't think introduction threads should have been moved either. I seldom look into that subforum and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Secondly I'm not discounting the importance of those kinds of threads, but I personally don't think we should be putting people second to technical things. If we can't get people feeling included, they aren't going to stay. And putting people into separate subforums whenever the opportunity arises certainly isn't including them.

I just always look at "new posts" and "recent activity" and it seems most efficient.

Plus ban appeals/complains in case I missed any drama shhh.

This really isn't necessary and it's not worth the time for an extremely negligible change. I really don't see a reason to make a subforum for almost everything that can be grouped anyway.

You go on about time but do you actually know how long it takes?
Making a new sub forum takes about a minute, and then moving the threads takes about 2-3 minutes.

Yes, making a sub forum isn't hard but it just isn't necessary. We could sub forum everything. We could have a sub forum for price suggestions, a sub forum for threads involving donation features, ect. We could categorize (using sub forums) every single thread on the forums to make them easily findable. But when divvying up forums there comes a point where the sub forums are more annoying and unnecessary than they are useful. The way the forums are divided works well now. There aren't enough of these threads that people want sub forums for to make it worth having .
