[Suggestion] Rule Change

I agree completely. ECC is supposed to be a friendly enviroment where someone can come and not be upset or learning something maybe their parents and teachers wouldn't want them saying. And knears, kuke I really dont care if swearing is socially accepted or it has a positive/negative connotation. The fact is that swearing is just going to probably offend someone. It is utterly useless on ECC. One might argue that it helps convey a specific message but when really there is a whole English language you could chose from and personally I think you can manage to replace swear words with other less offensive word.

 

Neither me or @kukelekuuk00 said that cursing should be allowed on ECC this is up to the staff. I think it should be controled and not just straight out forbidden. The point is swear words aren't more offensive than any other words. You gave the perfect example by saying that an entire nation, with rich history, traditions and all togheter good people are immature. You basicly said "fuck the Dutch" with more words and that is even more offesive. Following your logic that no one ever should be offended "the fact is that swearing is just going to probably offend someone" lets just ban every word so no one will ever be offended. Lets remove chat all together. Kuke and I where trying to tell you that your aproach towards this subject is wrong on every level.
Another brilliant quote is "conforming to society is a sign of cowardice" because the people who are offended by mere words that are so overused they have almost lost their meaning and we just put them together under "swears" are sooo brave. Please stop contradicting yourself after every sentance its not even an argument that you are making, just bits and pieces of stuff you heard put together.

Swearing is just another degree, and a high one at that. He said the dutch were "immature" which is not nearly close to saying "fuck the dutch". If you can replace all harsh words with swears, then doesn't that mean they're the highest degree?

I would have to agree. This seems quite unreasonable that you can swear on the widely populated server, yet you can't on the less populated forums.

 

Just to make it clear, we don't allow some of the words you were saying even in game. And while I would not edit "shit" out if it was a one time thing, I would, as in your case, it was used often. You act like I am doing you a disservice by making the server more family friendly. Still, mild cursing is allowed. Just don't use it in excess.

 

No you missed the point. I was trying to say they are the same even. The context is important and nobody even cares about context anymore.
Example: "This fucker is my best friend in the world!" and "This nice guy should suffer a slow death". Which of these 2 statements would offend you more? Words by themselfs have no meaning. Another example: "Dog space five table clown door" see just words this "sentance" has no meaning without context or porpper word placement. But everyone here says "swear words are offensive and people are hurt by them" no people are hurt by the context and by the person who is trying to hurt them. If someone is offended by mere words they are weak in character and should work more on their self esteem and not blame the internet/music/TV for offending them. Another argument you make is that there are children here. Well that is the parents responsability to control their child and know what games/sites/videos the children watch. If they don't want their kids exposed to "vile words" don't let them near the internet. What do you think that children only play ECC and never go on YT or 4chan or whatever? WRONG! Children are curious and thats good because that how they learn but if you want them to not be exposed to bad stuff get them off the computer and do something else. The thing is there is no middle ground.

 

What I mean was why can you swear on the server? You guys should follow what you do on the forums instead. That can prevent children from being influenced by swears.

 

The swearing rules on the forums and on the server are not too much different. If you're asking about the use of "shit" and "ass" we allow those on the server mainly because they are reactionary but on the forums where you have time to take your time to write a message,you should have self control.

Stop twisting my words. If you actually read my post, you would see that I said this:

Tagging me/mentioning me shows that you are angry at my specific person rather than the whole issue.

As for your other point, most people regard descriptive, higher level language as more powerful than cursing. Cursing won't strengthen your argument to anyone rather than yourself.

 

@oxwood2 I 100% agree that cussing doesn't strenghten an argumen you are just adding an extra word in and a sentance could do without it and have the same meaning. At this point it can be any word in the dictionary and it will not make a difference if its not relevant to the rest of the sentance.

ARE YOU KIDDING?!?! if you think humans should be people who shouldnt get hurt by words, well i dont know where you have been living. you would have to be an emotionless person to not get hurt by words.

 

Have you ever read the rules? Because they state that some swearing is okay. Does it state forums or in-game? NO. It's for both. Don't make up your own rules, just uphold the existing one. If you want new rules or the rules changed then take it up to phys.

(It's very difficult to argue with someone who doesn't understand the point in each post)

 

How is saying "People can still get hurt by words" when an awful argument like "words shouldn't hurt people and if they do you're weak" comes about off the point
