I dont have this feature but i was thinking. Wouldn't it be better if there was some kind of confirmation before it actually clears your inventory? For example if you type "/ci" a message will pop up saying "Are You Sure You Want To Clear Your Inventory?" And you can replay with maybe something like "/ci yes" or "/ci no" Im not sure if this can be coded but im sure kukelekuuk00 will let us know.

From what I have heard, there won't be a confirmation because the command was created for use by server owners who want to clear their inventory. The command wasn't really created to be used by players, and as far as I know, only players on ECC have access to it. 99% sure that it won't happen. Sorry.

I'm not very fond of the command and can't actually recall any time ever using it, but the always-present fear of accidentally doing so while holding something valuable still haunts me...

This is probably the most common suggestion I've seen where there hasn't been an 'official statement' release about it being accepted or declined, which makes me curious, because it isn't asking for the -whole- command to be removed, only of its shortcut; and we are talking about a command that inspires way more hatred than love (if any).

Here we're talking about something that is greatly upsetting the community, which doesn't only cause potentially valuable items to be lost forever, but that can also be used as a great tool for inappropriate behavior like Trolling.

I don't really see how removing the shortcut could be anything other than 'beneficial', I can't even picture anyone needing to use it so often that a shortcut would come handy. Honestly, I think a lot of people (like myself) would prefer to not even be given the command when donating for ExtCommands than later risk losing something valuable because of it.

Let me clarify a few things here, in regards to the command, its aliases and purposes.

The /ci alias for /clearinventory is part of the "staff" or "admins" tool set of Essentials, the plugin I develop.
The command is generally intended for the type of people who have access to spawn themselves items, or often play in creative mode. For this reason, I won't be adding any confirmation messages or removing /ci from the aliases for this command.

Quite plainly, Essentials is not written for ECC, ECC just happens to be one of the 100k servers which use Essentials daily. I won't make decisions which negatively effect the whole project because some players complain on one server :p

That being said andrewkm has the following options:
    • Remove the command from the ext commands bundle
    • Override the default alias, and make /ci point to another command... maybe... /help or something?
    • Find another plugin with /ci which does things differently and switch to that
    • Pay me or some other developer to work on a custom plugin which makes a custom /ci

So, you're saying that we can't remove /ci without removing /clearinventory as well?

If it is possible to remove /ci without removing /clearinventory, then I feel it should be done. I play many games, that, when it comes deleting items/characters/etc., have a safety net just in case the deletion is happening by accident. Regardless of whether or not you have read the commands, it's still a bigger problem than it is a solution. As it's been stated before, accidents happen, and accidentally typing /ci is a whole lot easier than accidentally typing /clearinventory. Why should ECC be exempt from the deletion safetynet?
