For the most part, the staff guidelines should be public - Players should know how staff are supposed to behave, when they are abusing their powers and just for the sake of transparency.

That being said though, I do understand that some aspects of the staff guidelines are private for a reason. Players can abuse the guidelines by breaking rules up to the point where they should be banned next time they break them and stop there - And if a mod bans them, they'll complain that they "didn't get enough warnings", along with the possibility of finding loopholes in the guidelines.

Therefore, I am suggesting to publicize a vaguer version of this staff guidelines - Please note, I am not proposing to publicize the actual guidelines, just a vaguer version of it. This allows players to see how staff are supposed to behave, when they are abusing their powers in some cases, and commits to transparency - all while keeping out private information, potential loopholes, and potential rule-benders.

A vague version of the staff guidelines? Just post the original thing then.

Jokes aside, I'd like this to happen, +1.

I dont know that it should be the whole staff guidelines specifically, because the last thing moderation needs is users unnecessarily trying to "police" the moderation. But just publicizing what precisely are the protocols for handling specific violations and the reprucussions for various violations to encourage more consistency in handling them would be great.

As I've said, it'd be a vaguer modified version of the guidelines, for those reasons you said. It definitely won't be the complete, whole staff guidelines.

Yeah I pretty much agree entirely with you I just think staff would be more cozy with the idea of only sharing like just a table and some info sharing how the violations are to be handled vs a version vague or not off the whole guideline.

However, maybe there is some other bit you are thinking of that I am not that would also be good with increased transparency and Im basically just saying what you are slightly differently.

But over all +1 to increased consistency and transparency!

What you want really isnt feasible... you can't have different private and public guidelines, and frankly I think it's terrible to tell people exactly which lines they can toe to avoid punishment.

You can though... You just create one geared toward informing the players, and another geared towards staff. This gives players a general idea of how moderators are supposed to handle situations and behave - This doesn't go into detail, or give players a comprehensive outlook on how staff are supposed to deal with things, as for the reason you said, they can avoid punishments by abusing it.

That sounds, more or less, like the server rules?

Not really - Server rules are rules players are supposed to abide by, not the way staff is supposed to act/deal with things.
