    Suggestion: Redstone linked trade signs

Reason: It would be nice if you could create trade signs that either activated, or are activated by, a redstone circuit. This could be used for multiple things. Enabling circuit: enabled paid access through doors or gates; enable payment for dispensed items (random item), paid use of bridge. Enabled by circuit: not really sure what use this could have, but I'm assuming with pressure plates and switches someone would find an interesting use.

Just a quick thought. Could be a donation feature. I'm sure there are plenty of pros and cons, let me know what they are.

This is quoted from khobbits one of the main developer of the essentials plugin. (The plugin that handles the trade signs.)

Even if it was possible I don't think it would be a good idea because people would spam pressure plates or make traps which cause you to lose money.

Well, I didn't mean that stepping on a pressure plate would actually use the sign. I meant that if you were on the plate or a switch was on, the sign would be enabled. Going the other way, the sign would create a redstone circuit when used. Either way the player has to actually use the sign for any effect.

What i am taking from this: If you are on a pressure plate, trade sign will send redstone signal. That is BAD. Should be that trade signs can be set to do one of 3 different things: 1. Act as normal [Trade] 2. Send signal when an item is purchased [Trade2] 3. Send signal when out of stock [Trade3] I'd use the out of stock and an inverter with redstone lamps so all the in-stock items would be lit up. The 'upon purchase' would work for bridges. Another possibility: Code bridge/gate/etc. signs to not use a 4th line. (ex. 3rd line of bridge would be '3:3' intead of 3rd and 4th being '3'.) The 4th line would be a price to use the sign, taken from your balance when used. It will close when you have stepped on and then stepoed off. This would make it cost each person to pass. The sign creator could toggle it for free.

#2 is what I'm going for, and #3 is an excellent addition!

Just use [trade] [trade2] and [trade3] for the different functions. Reason for 3 is so you can have an alert when you are out of stock (see my example), whilst 2 would function for such a thing as paying for a bridge. Cool trick for you: charge a nickel more than the price you want them to pay, and give them a dirt block in return (worth a nickel). One problem with 2 for your purpose: it will toggle, not activate. To fix that issue use an RS NOR latch, the second input being a pressure plate at the other end of the bridge/side of a gate. That means you can't close them on someone. Especially neccesary if you have a lava moat under the bridge. RS NOR: B is block, T is redstone torch, R is redstone dust, I is an input. X is blank, A is air specifically. RRBTRI RXXXR IRRRTB Both torches attached to the block adjacent to them. This latch toggles, but remembers which input it last recieved. A toggle circut with memory- mini-computer. My favorite redstone thing other than a piston-powered cobble farm in skyblock, not counting mods like redpower either.
