eh true, but then horses haven't been too abused (to my knowledge) and they are only a moderate symbol of wealth
@annyonion: +1000000! This is a great idea, I would love to have a pet dog in my town! The only problem I have is the price of them i think it should be lowered a bit, but that is just my opinion, so I understand many will disagree with me as the 'need to be rare' or 'they have to only be available to rich users' I understand the point I just think they need to be lowered in price slightly. Great idea though anny!
A while back cats were allowed to spawn, it was near the point where horses were enabled. They were allowed for a week ish. There are also some residual mobs and animals in really old and untouched parts of the legacy server aswell. I have seen sheep, cows and zombies on legacy that have survived in places.
+1 I like the idea I just think that there should be a way to prevent them from tping to you if you do not have them sitting and go to spawn or into an sg with you. I have had on other servers(factions) and I had a few dozen pet dogs who also tpd to spawn with me and my game went crazy (from "you can't attack in safe zone" messages) as they all started attacking people in a safe zone and eventually were all killed as no one could get hurt.
This is an awesome idea, and it would really be an economy changer, and very exciting. However, there are a few things that when I look, need to happen: 1. You can't loose animal; they could easily walk away, and there goes your money. 2. They have to be invincible, like horses, to avoid trolling/loss 3. In general, there can't be any affect on them for other players. This includes no/minimal lag, and other interactions Should these things be addressed, I would love to have an pet myself.
I already addressed those issues. 1) like star tools, horses and or other valuables it's the users responsibility to keep it safe. 2) that is the point of this suggestion, to make them invincible to death and purchasable via Nstars. 3) I already explained how horses have yet to cause any major server lag issues being how common horses are. Star pets will be rare and not as common. There shouldn't be an issue.
I am not a minecraft buff, but as I understand, cat's and wolves are "entities", and isn't a big reason we limit entities in the Mining and Nether is because of potential lag? Aren't horses entities, and as those are invincible and aren't butchered, how many currently exist, and what is the impact on server resources? I like the idea of netherstars, however, ECC currently has a sprawling economy that some fear is inflated... If pets costed ECD, the expense for a luxury trinket could help reduce the liquid market of available cash. Then I ask, with either netherstars or ecodollars, should it be expensive or inexpensive? If expensive - it does give users something to aim for, and does boost life to the market. However, if there is ever a problem with entities, people will feel awful if they get butchered. What if they were inexpensive, and could get butchered in-frequently? This way, if butcher is needed to help server processing, it happens, and people can get new ones. This sort of makes these vanity decorations a perishable good that can provide enjoyment and continually encourage the trade of netherstars or expenditure of ecodollars to a broad consumer base.
I see what you are saying. However, there are still a few major issues. For point 1, we can not necessarily control the pets while offline. They are free to roam. I, for one, wouldn't want to keep my cat in a stable, either. I would rather have it stay controlled in my house. For 2, sorry, I missed that. For 3, the functions of other animals are somewhat more complex than a horse. For example, wolves have the basic traits like moving all, however, they also have to attack. Wether or not this will have any affect on lag needs to be tested. Also, I think what Onscene is saying is true and I agree with some of his points.
Once you make the pet sit it does not move and nobody else can make him unsit but you who tamed it. So you can make him sit in your home. As I mentioned in my original post the only other way is to manually move it but as long as it's in a secure room it should be fine (unless someone griefs which is punishable). Onscene has many good points as well. Keep the discussion up
