I could never have guessed this issue affected so many players. I am thankful for each and every one of your responses whether you agree with the suggestion or not as there has been some great things discussed and excellent points made. I am too old to even try to multi-quote . I do want to restate for clarification that I am extremely grateful for our owner and staff and all the hard work that each and every one of them perform for us to have a fun place to play and trust them to continue to make the right decisions to keep it that way. This suggestion in no way questions decisions made by the owner and staff - it is simply in a world of written and non-verbal communication a clarification on an obviously flawed term used frequently on this server. I would also like to add that if I had my choice, not one single player would ever be "perma" banned as I would like to think that every single one of us have the ability to change our attitudes - mature - and make the right decisions to do the right thing.
There are some things that warrant a permaban, but they are so extreme that I do not think there are more than a handful of users actually banned for those reasons right now (that have been considered "permabanned"). I agree with removing the term. However, if the concept is still going to be used (which I am all for), the word should change to some form of synonym. "Long-Lasting," "Constant," "Fixed," "Lasting," or "Indefinite" are just some word choices. None of them mean that the ban is set-in-stone and forever, but they still hold the concept of a long ban or a ban that will need some kind of very special appeal. One way or another, if the term is removed or changed, there will have to be a [sticky] announcement thread, otherwise people will be confused about "permabanned" users for a while (and it allows currently "permabanned" users to know). That is, however, a possible problem - there is no way to search for all users who have "permaban" in their ban reason(s)...
An "indefinite ban" would be much more suited than a perma ban. +1 to AdmiralD's suggestion, but I would change the meaning of "perma ban".
Ok I half agree with this suggestion. We all know some users we perma banned recently for a dumb reason. Some appealed some didn't. I believe that PermaBans should not go away 100%. I think they should only be used for serious things such as: ddosing, "hacking" the server, MAJOR exploits, and MAJOR scamming talking about like 15 million overall scammed or something like that... So saying that +1/-1 Something like this, depending on who he was bypassing, should stay: http://www.ecocitycraft.com/forum/threads/staff-application-daemosa64.109270/#post-580446 I also personally believe people who pissed off andrew and got perma'd for something that had nothing to do with ECC or was really small for that matter should be unbanned without having to appeal since they were banned in andrews rage i.e So*tly. nicit stated this in a suggestion post about permabans and that if you get banned a certain number you receive a perma: ↑ I think people should keep nominating themselves Also make sure you don't miss anyone that is a convicted scam hacker or cheater Accu***hd just appealed Let's put them up there Maybe skscoccer? Don't forget gi******ader lolelf z**rux etc Let's cover those bases. GTFO Your only purpose on ECC it seems is to whine about how we run our server. PermaBan. Andrew says this to dork. Dork broke no rules here but he just annoyed him so he got a permaban because andrew was done. I have "bleeping" out permabanned users names to be safe. http://www.ecocitycraft.com/forum/threads/ban-appeal.74075/#post-358743 Yes here LDe had been trolling a lot but the same case. Andrew got fed up with his sh*t and permabanned him Ok I am done for now
Ok, I can kinda agree with you here but then I can not. The reason I cant totally agree with is because I was Perma-Banned for 2.5 years... Yes this would agree with you that the word isn't truly true to its meaning, but it gets the job done. It makes you feel like, oh I done messed up and not just, oh I've been banned for 6 months no big deal. If you get perma-banned its really is just a message from the staff saying "You should've checked yourself before you wrecked yourself and now take a LONG time to think about what you have done".
A permaban should be reserved for people who actually have no chance of appealing. I have good faith that, because of the change in administration, that will be the case. For anything that's not truly permanent a different term, like indefinite ban, could be used.
The thing is that it should not be called permaban if it is not permanent. A ban such as this could still exist, bans could stay exactly as they are with appeal able bans, just only call them permabans when they are actually permanent with no appeal for them available.
Many users who have been 'perma banned' multiple times have been unbanned and are mostly currently unbanned ( This included myself) , this term should really be kept for players like 'Voldemort' as his name was put on the mcmmo lists.
I was banned on 3/16/13 after a 1 week temp-ban. Then I was recently unbanned this past March of 2014.
I agree and disagree. I agree that in almost every case a perma ban is not permanent. However, there are few users who ARE not coming back.
He was the one stating everything, in real life and in minecraft, was reversible. And those people are permabanned, the others are just banned. There is a difference, and they should use a different term other than permaban if they are able to appeal at all.
The thing that is being suggested is too remove the term perma because in most cases even though they ARE perma banned they appeal and get unbanned. I agree it should be changed...
