You know that 'jumping and hitting' only takes about 1/2 hearts every 2 hits? And anyways, you can still run. Also, I know its not pointless because I have seen it on another.... *cough* server.

You see, like i have suggested, you wouldn't get killed instantly because kits wouldn't be enabled in games that the GP is disabled.
I'd say...reduce - okay. Maybe down to 20-30 seconds. But completely delete on no-kit SG's? No, thanks... :S
Because...is it really that good to have every player hit another with his fists at the beginning until a few reach the chests and get swords? Then there is almost nothing left of the strategy which is an important part of the SG.
Hmm.. I wish i could show you a large match withought a GP . Not many people attack eachother with their fists. You could easily run away, and not many people devote their sg'ing to whacking you untill someone gets a sword and kills them.
No I honestly would hate this. Defeats the purpose of sg. I want a 60 second grace period to find chests get armor etc. In the beginning who ever find a sword first can easily get like 10 legendaries.
It should be a 30 second grace period at shortest if that's what you're looking for. A no grace period just takes luck and no skill whatsoever. I would think that this is fair and would keep the games moving to some degree. +1/-1
For once I would agree with aqqel on something, this would just take the fun part that I enjoy out of sg, which is the strategy and hunting to survive aspect.
