While I think this is an interesting idea if it can be done, there is a limited niche market for sponges and sponge services. If we eliminate the niche markets, we are left with a less diverse market...

But if it is a donation feature, I guess that may even out the loss? Maybe? Not sure...

Flexibility and broad horizons of the market is the most important thing on EcoCityCraft.

If we make it easier to do something like this with a donation feature, then why not make it easier to break ores with a donation feature? Makes money, but it would affect the market... hm...

 

We have this though, in the form of McmmoBonusPlus features. Each adds 4 seconds onto the length at which you can instabreak ores, as well as being useful for lots of other things.

 

I will speak with other administration regarding the possibility of implementing this.

While it's a nice idea and is ment to help i dont think players would buy this feature just for a faster sponge break. Only players that are water doners can places sponges anyways so i think this already should be implemented at water or water+. The only way I can see this being purchased is for the metal which is not something I would like to see happen because of the imbalance it would make among the other festures.

I would pay for a ++ just for the ability to break sponge. People pay money to have a useless pet follow them around just because (myself included) so this isn't that big a stretch.

 

The pet is a new feature and donation which had never been tried on the server. Not to mention it has 3 metal pay offs and give a person status (loads of people follow you because of your pets). That's why people buy pets and they are immortal.

Now to have a faster break and that's it? Vs. The same $15 to get multiple home, kits, pets and a alot more useful features? To say water++ is appealing at that point is silly. Without the metal plumber only a tiny margin people would get this donation. It's not worth $15 and as you can tell many people agree.

It's fine to have as many donations as possible Its a good thing i dont mind adding this for the soul purpose of generating a little more donation income. But I do disagree with you that this donation will be appealing to people to have a significant impact on the donation martket. It's simply to little gain for such a large expense for most players to consider purchasing this.

I never mentioned the significance, albeit maybe an implication of the donation factor and I was antagonizing your remark "..i dont think players would buy this feature just for a faster sponge break." I was saying that I as a player would buy this feature just for the fastbreak. Pets as an example is of a feature that IS useless in functionality you say people follow you, or get medals but do the medals do anything? No they don't they are just as flashy as the pets. Now for my above opinion trio 1. It is my opinion. 2. Your response to me liking this idea is silly is an opinion. 3. Yay's or nay's on this feature is all opinion based upon the individual who personally reflects whether they would bother with this feature or not. That's all very well and good. But as a mod you should understand where I'm coming from thinking as a macro(the server) and not a micro(just yourself). You would buy this donation that's fine I'm not saying you wouldn't or saying you shouldn't buy this feature I'm just saying what I think people and myself would want. As for your trio.

That's completely fine its your opinion but I'm saying others might disagree (your the one that quoted me so obviously you want a debate) I'm coming from the macro, the whole server as a majority trying to express what others may be thinking. Again I was talking for the majority that might agree with me saying what most people might agree on that the pros don't outweigh the cons. You can buy it if you want, but there is no debate that other features can be more appealing and have more rewards. I don't disregard others saying they wouldn't buy this, my post was just me saying not to lump me into the total is all. If water++ were added it would be nice to have more than just fast break on sponge, like what monkeyz said above, but I do still think many people would buy it even with the fastbreak as the only part of the feature, but that may just be limited to the populations that bother to drain oceans.

 

I'm not disregarding others either. I'm just voicing what myself and others may think. I cannot argue that this won't be useful. I myself think it's useful. But as you see from my previous comments when this is put into perspective it's not as appealing as other features of equal value. However that doesn't mean players won't buy it. I've also said others will buy this, but it won't be as popular and make a big dent as other features would. Again this is a case where the cons outweigh the pros. But that doesn't mean players wouldn't buy this feature I've never claimed they wouldn't if you review my comments carefully. I simply don't think $15 is worth it.

However, in 1.8, everytime you use a sponge it will become a "Wet Sponge" and the effects of the sponge will go away until you dry the sponge with a furnace/cookpot. Maybe water++ could add the feature of this "Wet sponge" to go away and continue how it currently is?

Ignoring the rest of your argument, because Joseph has a slight lack of consciousness and doesn't feel like digging through that can of worms, I do believe that time and time again ECC has proven that we prioritize function over fashion. When a new player starts on the server they tend to donate for things such as TP, Multihome, ExtCommands etc. long before they'll think about purchasing nickname or a pet? Why is this? Because all those donations augment their gameplay, they allow you to accomplish more, whereas a pet is purely cosmetic. As you say it does give you prestige and a bit of amusement, but when beginning most have dollar signs running through their minds, not party favours.

So for the feature itself I feel that it doesn't really hurt anybody to add, I've never heard of anyone that's ever relied on the great income they're making clearing oceans, and this would likely only increase demand for sponges. So while you feel you are speaking for the server in stating that not many would buy it, most donations added are looked at from less of a perspective of who would buy it, as if the suggestion is out there clearly at least one person wants to, and for it to be added many people tend to show their support. However generally the "for the benefit of the many" outlook is looking at who the suggestion hurts, not who wants it.

Basically, is it hurting you that this is added? No? Is it hurting anyone? No? Then why in the world would anyone bother attempting to stop it's integration into our server features. You can choose not to buy it, many already do for water+, it doesn't inhibit those that only have water that some users have water+, why would it inhibit anyone that a water++ is introduced?

TL;DR: Most users pick Function over fashion. Why argue against something that hurts no one, while helping some?

 

I don't know what the point of your whole comment was about. If you read my "can of worms" you would have already found all these comments already adressed. For your comment about prioritizing functionality over fashion you are not impacting my previous comments at all. I never said they would pick that donation over another. I said pets serve a function to the server. To argue saying the server picks functionality over fashion is nice but COMPLETELY irrelevant to my original comments. Also it's ironic you contradict yourself saying a new player will chose water++ because of its functionality, when you just listed all the other things they can buy that's way more useful to new players.

This feature doesn't hurt anyone? I never said it did? I like how you said no one gets alot of money for ocean clearing this is true. This would cause them to get less money because the jobs are so easy to accomplish now because of the extreme reduction in time it will take to accomplish the job. This will not increase the demand for sponges either that it silly. Faster sponge break will result in less sponges needed because they can break the ones that have. You can just /kit water and get a sponge and with that clear an ocean because of a fast break.

I would suggest reading the entire suggestion instead of addressing only one aspect and leaking in comments about the rest. If you took the time to read the comments above you would see the argument was not about the worthlessness of the donation it was about the worth of the donation compared to its financial counterparts. Not everything is so black and white as you would lead others to think. The old argument "is it hurting anyone " is to outlived to be used in the suggestion stop taking everything at face value. Look to how you can be better stabilize the suggestion. Don't just accept it as is if there can be improvement. There is always room to make it better or equal to its other features. Dont limit yourself to think you have to work inside the box.

Actually with the water physics as they are now 1 sponge would not clear an ocean even with fast break, as soon as you remove a sponge if you place the sponge in the wrong spot a bunch of water starts pouring in. You would need a good 200 or so sponges minimum to clear just one section of water and more if you have to clear like a 200x200 area that goes down 30 blocks. Also people pay more for quicker jobs not longer ones.
