Suggestion: Donate a percentage of the money from donations we receive during Mental Health Awareness week to a Mental Health Charity voted on by the community.

Reason: Right now all we're really doing is just adding Mental Health Awareness Week onto the end of a server event week, we're not really doing anything to change it or really make a difference which I understand is okay as we are making people talk about the topic but we have the wonderful chance to be able to do so much more.

ECC has a fantastic community of over 150+ players and we are really fortunate in this fact as we do have the power as a collective whole to really do something and change the world we live in, we can do something to actually support and help those who suffer from mental health issues.

Andrew has said in the past that we have enough money to be able to last another couple of years as a server which is awesome and means that we shouldn't suffer a "financial crisis" just because we're donating 20% of our income for that month. If the features are at the default price and we donate 25% of the proceeds the server itself will be receiving just as much money as it would during the March Madness sale, the difference is the extra 25% is going to something awesome :)

I imagine one of the ServerAdmins+ could post a poll in the general discussion sub-forum or wherever the most appropriate place is on what charity we decide to donate the proceedings too, this would engage with the community and we can decide as a whole which one out of the hundreds out there we want to donate our accumulated money too.

I apologize if I sound rude when I was describing how all we're doing is just adding the words "Mental Health" to events week but that's just how I interpreted it however by doing something like this we really can change something. I do think it is neat that you are doing something like this @Obblebobble and I respect you for that, just making a suggestion for a way we can make it even better :)

Any Other Information: We could set it to something like 10-20%, nothing over the top but enough where we will be able to make a genuine difference.

Thanks to @kukelekuuk00 for the initial idea :)

+1 This would be a really good thing to do. I doubt andrew would loose much money at all, and after all, it's going to somewhere where it is really needed and gladly accepted.

Players who wish to fund such sources can donate directly. When I choose to donate to the server, I want to fund the server. If someone wants to fund a cause, donate to it directly. In the end it is Andrew's money; he can do what he wants.

In anticipation of the hatred of this viewpoint, I will say this. I am actively contributing to various charities in my community. This past month, I donated 5 sets of dress clothes to those seeking employment but having little means to "dress to impress" or in a way fitting for the jobs for which they would be applying. What have you done recently?

Bring the potatoes. I don't care. If you want to help, make a personal donation.

I think that this is really the better goal. If you want to make a personal donation, do so.
I support the idea, just think that the above is a better solution.

I can definitely see the sense in that with the EULA drama and worries. I think that is a fair and wise response considering the situation at hand. Down the line when everything is more certain maybe something like this can happen. Perhaps for now a post including links to several mental health charities could be included in the event post to make it easy for players to make the decision to support it further.

I support this but andrew has said no. I appreciate the suggestion and think it has great intentions though :)

I do see your point on the fact that this events week has no real "aim" in a sense, meaning we're not actually acting on anything. But the main focus is 1. Awareness (a lot of people struggle with mental illness) and 2. Just helping ECC feel more like a community. Sure donations would be great, but seems like we can't do much about that.

Nah @Obblebobble, it's mental health awareness week, the aim is right in the title and your event is promoting that aim and doing just as you say, bringing the community together and making activities and all for the good cause of making mental health something people are more comfortable discussing. Thank you so much for helping bring this event together for us.

Donations would have just been icing on the cake and I think in a different atmosphere that it would have happened too.
