+100000 I agree, fishing is dead. In terms of buffing the drop rarity of items, could the rarirty of items dropped from excavation be increased as well?
I have never owned one of these but I have used one. I was quite disappointed to find that it only made 10 cents/decade. Star rods really dont do anything more than a regular pick or pumpkin axe (which can be bought for less than 10k). I don't see why you wouldn't want to increase the worth of star rods. +1
A quick point.... increasing the stat that increases the rate fish catch WILL NOT increase it. It will actually make it never happen. Don't believe me? Go try it in creative. If we were to increase fishing it would have to be through increasing fish prices.
Ok, so an update in discussion: 1) star rod fishing speed cannot be upgraded. Whether a "double fish" chance is possible with looting is unknown. 2) general consensus leans towards the easy and far more boring option of increasing fish value (people are saying +$5-10 per fish, but this would increase profits only about 50%...which is still quite low) 3) XP came up. The question of whether fishing should provide XP was raised. Esp. Since half-ish of the money from fishing is from XP. 4) Finally, people seem to enjoy the idea of eliminating junk mcmmo drops and adding other ones (non-rare materials, but things with $$ value). The issue of re-enabling enchanted diamond tools at very high levels of fishing has yet to be addressed. 5) MCMMO fishing doesn't really improve the fishing experience as it stands. I'd like to see fishing $$ increase as this skill is increased so I'm a huge fan of editing the drop tables.
According to my tests from a while ago, neither looting nor fortune influence it. Also, for those who want to know why fishing time can't be decreased: Catch time = Range between 5 seconds and 45-(5*Lure level)seconds. Lure 8 results in 5 to 5 seconds of catching time. *Nods* Same.
If memory serves fishing drops are only influenced by enchantment luck of the sea, or something along the lines of that.
Not sure about luck of the seas - but from the current perspective, the high enchantment level seems to decrease the money per hour since the "treasures" are worth less than fish. So I don'T really see the purpose in adding higher levels.
what about increase fish prices quite a bit and get rid of xp drops from fishing. You could find out about what percent of the money you make per hour is based on xp then increase the fish prices by that amount. Then add an extra 10% or so because fishing makes no money. This would increase the amount of money made from fishing and maybe increase the price of xp since it has tanked recently.
I would say raise fish prices, get rid of "treasures" because they can hardly be called such, and half exp
From my experience, Luck of the sea increases the drop rare of the rare fish as well, that is why I ask, as well the junk drops from mcmmo can simply be removed in favour of things that aren't a waste of time to catch.
So does we have any chance of changes going through? Should we hash out a more algorithmic solution so it can be coded?
I certainly intend to look into this however server-wise we have a few higher priorities (the hub, for instance).
Has a avid fishermen here is my 2 cents: Increase fishing prices, its pathetic that star rods make around 8-10k with 1k mcmmo fishing, there was a nerf when the drops where enabled and nothing has been done to fix this, to think that fort3 mining and coco farming make the same if not more then a star tool is just sad. As for the exp removal or nerf i am okay, as long its compensated somewhere else, but its far from being a solution to the exp problem as there is only (at this time) 18 people who can fish and get 8k exp per hour with a star rod. i feel that the low player count and mining exp is what makes exp be at current state, but i am biased has i love fishing
I have to most agree with raising fish prices. Fishing with a tool that costs 1500 nether stars seems like it should make more than just 8-10k per hour. This would be a great, easy fix to this problem.
Adding a chicken farm where the eggs all lead to you while fishing helps a little bit it adds around 1k/hour i think
