I have been on the server for 2 years, and I have gone from wheat farming, carrot farming, cocoa bean farming, to now mining. This will always happen unfortunately the server does change and with it the prices. I would like to see the prices of wheat or some other harder to harvest material go up and things like pumpkins and melons stay low, they are way to easy to harvest when you have a Pumpkin axe or a Melon sword and as such it is a very easy way for already rich players to become even richer and does nothing to help the other players that are working really hard to make there money by going into the survival games and battling it out or having to go into the mining world and risk falling off a cliff or ravine or into lava.

I'm pretty sure everyone with a melon sword can find a new way to make money :p you'll just have to dedicate yourself to something else like maybe go back to farming dem pumpkins?

This is a highly debatable subject, and I'm glad to debate anyone on this point and my standpoint on the idea. I have no issue with you saying I'm incorrect at all, it is your opinion, and I have mine. Now that's out of the way, let's talk business.
First and foremost, this is a little stupid of Mojang to do this. Why it was done is beyond me. From their standpoint, it was just a waste of time coding something that already has something else doing it. But anyway, everything on ECC is a risk. ECC is one of the handful of servers that is affected every update from the aspect of gameplay. But every update Mojang has thrown at us, we've managed to stay on our feet, and thrive. Hell, we're still here after three and a half years of all the stuff Mojang as thrown at us! Enchantment tables, and everything else, we've made changes and have survived. The same will be done with Melon Swords.
You have to deal with it. That's the is all of the end all, you're going to have to deal with it. Some of you will quit, some of you won't. Everything you invest in on ECC is a risk in the long term. Who knows, maybe shovels will be used to mine one day, but we don't know. That would ruin the Eff7 business, like this update is projected to do to Melon Swords. Obviously, this hurts the entire economy from the user side. Farming is pretty much dead currently, this is pretty much kicking it while it's down. It can't be revived at this point unfortunately. I highly suggest taking up another form of income if you farm...
Now that my synopsis is done, I'm going to get into my opinion. I personally think that this idea is fairly premature. Has Mojang finalized this yet? No. Why are you suggesting this if hasn't even been implemented/confirmed yet? So, that's your first flaw. Secondly, who/how will this be coded? That was never discussed and I'd like to see how that will be done. On top of that, this happens all over the world. Remember the stock market crash? Were those investors refunded? No. Same thing here. Melon Swords are a long term investment. They completely lost value, similar to those stocks that crashed. Melon Swords will crash, and that happens. That's what happens in an economy. Things rise and fall in value, all the time. It sucks. I understand. No one wants this to happen, but, it will.
From the standpoint of economic stability of the server, this is fairly good for the economy because it's taking money out. Or at least preventing mass amounts of money being dumped into by the hour from the Melon Sword. So from the servers economic stability standpoint, this is fairly good, but extremely unfortunate.
Overall, I don't think anything can/will be done for Melon Sword owners. Refund? Won't happen. Can be easily scammed or fraud. I'm sorry for your losses.
TL;DR

Attempting to keep the melon sword at its same power level is an awful idea. For once this server had a chance for change, so the best way of money wasn't just walking up and down rows of melons spam clicking. For once we may have actually been able to experience how economies actually happen. In real life, the same market doesn't increase then remain a great money earner for eternity. Things actually change, believe it or not. Let me use an example to describe an instance of this:
If you are too unfortunate and did not live in the 90s to the earlier 21st century, you probably don't know what this is. It was a store in which you actually had to go to location in order to rent movies and video games.
You see, blockbuster was very popular during this time period. It became a multi-million dollar company. But what happened you ask? Well, time changed. The world changed. Things like netflix and on demand came out, so there was no point in driving to an on-point location in order to rent movies. There became a better, and probably cheaper version to take advantage of. Blockbuster became worthless at this point, and grew bankrupt and shutdown.
However, they adapted and created a version of on-demand labeled blockbuster on-demand.
Markets change. Things come things go. It's a part of an economy and if you honestly insist that your way must always be the best forever, you are truly not experiencing hardcore economy. If I had a melonsword, honestly I would be happy if the change went through. It would actually create a change in my gameplay.
Are people not allowed to have an opinion because they don't own it? Of course those who own it will say yes to this. If this is how everyone sees suggestion, saying the biased can only have an opinion, we would have no change and nothing interesting.

knears2000 BuilderBuilder ⛰️ Ex-President ⚒️⚒️True, true, but sure as hell if this were to happen to them, they would be all for it. I'm against this for the economic stability of the server, not for my benefit. I didn't go out and buy silk touch on my axe like a pussy, to get an advantage, like most others did.
Oh man, sh*t just got real!
Grow up, and let others voice there opinion. I didn't know that we were totalitarian here on ECC.-
