...It's perfectly usable, even after this kind of nerf. Like I said before, only people who want to use this feature in a way that was not intended will care about it's nerf. Unless a serious argument is brought up, you honestly just look like you want to abuse it. I don't see any good reason for it to not be nerfed like this, I only see bad things from the people who want no nerf. Seriously guys, if you are going to oppose this, bring up actual arguments please.
You payed $100 for a donation feature that is overpowered and unbalances PVP. So much so that it's use deters the activity.
That is the official reason why invisibility was introduced. So you're saying that if you use it for any other reason you are abusing the feature? Sure, it's overpowered, but they bought the feature and unless you're seriously going to force them to only use it to "investigate your problems/issues in secret", they can do what they want with it. And there's absolutely no reason to "investigate your problems/issues in secret". EcoCityCraft isn't Mission Impossible.
Don't put a delay on how long it takes to actually /vanish. To me, the massive amounts of clans who are in full prot 4 armor, sharp iv+ swords, and extremely high MCMMO levels, is just as overpowered as the /vanish feature itself. Putting a delay on how quickly one can /vanish is extremely unfair to those who paid for the feature, not to abuse it, but rather for an extra bit of protection from you bullies (lololol) is just really not cool. Ok so yeah, dealing with groups of powerful people is part of the game blah blah blah, ok well Andrew himself said that yes it would change the game play, and that this feature would be for his "top donors" so that not every single person could (ab)use the feature. It seems like we will have to get used to this, just like new residents or non-PVPers have to get used to all of your over powered PVP perks. To Andrew, if you are considering doing something to change this feature, please please please don't give us a delay on how long it takes for us to vanish. I think maybe a delay on how long it takes before you can give damage after an /unvanish is fine (even though I love to unvanish, beat the crap out of a creeper, then vanish again) but I beg of you, don't nerf this feature... $100 is a lot of money to be spent to just have what we paid for taken away or nerfed, because of a few complaints.
Why does everyone compare the server to other things, like... Life. Life isn't fair, does this mean we should make the server not fair? Of course not. Well, that's why there is such a word as balancing. There was a rule not to "troll" with this feature, and there is also a rule to use common sense. Using the feature in obvious annoying ways, like the ways it sounds people have been using it so far in PvP and the like, are ways you will get the feature removed from you. Trust me, you do not want a $100 feature removed from you. ... ... ... I seriously still want that answer that nobody seems to own on how adding this delay for becoming vanished is going to effect anyone who is using the feature how it's meant to be used. Until I get that answer, I'm not changing my standpoint and don't see why others should either. You can still get all the protection from the "bullies" in PvP you want, just vanish before walking into PvP... Only if you wished to use /vanish during PvP could I see it not helping as protection against them. I'd like to add as well that there is rules for this feature. People were not meant to use it in this way and if something can easily be done about it, whether it be rules or what, we will not have to "get used to it". We shouldn't have to deal with something like this if it's easily fixable. (Oh, and I don't exactly support things like the feature mcmmo+ myself. I know it's overpowered, but I got it anyway because I might as well since it's there. Trust me, I'm not a fan of people quickly becoming "PvP bullies" because of it either, despite me doing it myself.)
It will effect me because when I am mining and have tons of great things on me and suddenly someone removes their disguise and attacks me with a sharp v, I won't be able to /vanish quickly to protect myself because of the delay. I've spent a lot of time in the mining world dealing with this and would have no problem continuing to do so, if I didn't pay $100 for a feature that told me I would have the ability to /vanish on demand. Like I said, I fully support a delay in the time it takes to attack/deal damage after /unvanishing but I don't want to lose my ability to /vanish and /unvanish immediately. I paid too much money for the feature, to have restrictions placed on it because the PVPers are not happy!
I completely agree with you, the people who paid should get their money's worth. Btw, if you look at my original suggestion, well, this is exactly what i asked for. Only after you UNvanish
That wouldn't exactly help...most people don't look back every 3 seconds when they're mining. I say keep it the way it is, they paid $100 for this.
dpatt, i understand why you might think that, but it makes a huge difference. Without this delay, someone could sneak up behind me (without any possibility of my knowing) and disarm me. I don't expect you to know because you are not a PvPer, but this does help plenty. I appreciate it Andrew.
Yes, I'm not a PvPer, but the only way this could work is if you look back every 3 seconds. Maybe it could work if you had a minimap mod though.
I'm completely fine with this. I'd prefer not to have it, but there would be no complaints if it happened.
My only issue with there being no delay before vanishing is that there is already commands designed to be utilized in those situations glockemdown described earlier. If you are mining and get attacked you have the opportunity to /spawn or /home and the same protection is granted. I look at the vanish feature as a way more so to elude people who may be malicious or to shadow a victim you intend to kill. I realize Andrew may not view it the same way but the points presented earlier already have a viable option and vanish isn't necessary to protect yourself when you are mining. As it stand now though, I would really like to see some measure taken. The cool-down idea that Andrew liked earlier would help prevent the spamming of /vanish we see now in PVP but I don't know that it would eliminate it from a tactic in PVP. I'm fine and well with many tactics in PVP but one that grants immunity, invisibility, and instant element of surprise is not one of them. Again, the balancing I'd like to see is up to Andrew and I think that this is a topic that will probably remain a running debate for some time after any measures are taken. Even with the nerf it would be a super powerful donation feature and one I would be interested in donating for.
What if you're in the mining world to mine? The 3 second delay will help those with the intent of PVP-ing, but not those who are simply mining in the mining world. My opinion: Add the 3 second delay, as it won't make a big difference. People who bought Investigator should get what they paid for, and nothing less.
Really? I recently heard this wasn't much of a problem anymore as of recently - at least for right now. Bumping the thread might just give people ideas. :| I'm sure it's on Andrew's or a developers "to do list" if it happens at all. Andrew already said he'd think about a delay. (Not for becoming vanished, but for hitting people after they unvanish.)
Ok. Lets take a hardy look from the rules. Any user found ABUSING and or USING FOR MALICOUS INTENT will have their donation feature removed. I agree 100% Vanish gives a huge advantage to pvp, so let's disable it in pvp, nether, and mining world. Why would you need to check griefs in the mining world/nether? You seem not to understand we are NOT nerfing completely, simply fixing something that you shouldn't have been using in the first place! You can still log block, you can still vanish, all there is is a 5 second cool down to give users to react. 5 whole seconds. We nerfed fly in the nether and mining world, how is this any different? Yet there weren't near as people complaining that they were mad that people wasted $60 on fly and now they can't use it in nether/mining world. AND FOR THE THIRD TIME, WE ARE NOT NERFING IT! We are making it FAIR. And with this, I bid you all farewell And support this completely.
