Adding on to RampageCLA's comment there would be butchers right? So that would make it pointless to even have a horse. Just enjoy having a horse on singleplayer.
Singleplayer's not good enough! Muiltiplayer horses would be the best! A group of investers has already said they are willing to invest 100k+ in a horse race business (see link in my signature). If we could get a word from andrew/wewin on the feasibility of this, it'd be greatly appreciated!
May I suggest in the aether, I cannot see them being added into the main world given that we have all mobs disabled there but I would like to see them added into the aether. You could make ranches and raceways there and maybe even with permission some sort of pvp zone might be enabled with in the aether to allow for jousting. Just hopefully nobody abuses the breeding and makes a horse dot like they did with chickens way back when.
Oh yes...the chickens...*shivers* But you have an interesting approach trevalyn. I do not have the aether, so I have no idea how much spare space is up there. If there are a few island chains of spare room, that might do the trick. This would definitely give me a solid reason to buy the aether.
personally I would make islands for this sole purpose, might dust off the 'ole aether thread and make a group project up there. designing a stable and raceway.
Never thought about making an island But if the aether is the only place they can be used, there probably won't be as much excitement as the main world.
I doubt they would be added in to the main world, mining world you would only get a month to play with them and there is grief there too, nether no so the only logical option is aether. Unless you can make an sg arena where horses are available and tame enough to ride.
You had this idea? I have been rolling this one about in my noggin for awhile now. I might actually enter the aether to see it in action.
Make it a donation feature and call it breeder. Or make it an sg kit and you can call it tamer and you can either get a tamed wolf or a horse.
Everyone brings up valid points but I wish you would all go back and read ALL the comments on this thread, there are a lot of good points brought up. I was talking with Nico way back when he first made this post. I believe horses to be a good addition despite the obvious flaws, however I understand why we could never have horses in the main world, I do understand that the aether is a logical place for horses and with Trev I am sure some of us could build a beautiful big stadium and race track for horses. This is just a new idea of mine but I mean if Nico saw the amount of attention this was still getting after being on the server for months, I think he would be very proud.
I would like to add what Unknownrider was discussing about the other day in Skype(?). If we added Horses, possibly setup some sort of sign selling Horse eggs, just like villager Eggs at the Mining World. We could setup some sort of Stable at Spawn, possibly behind Md_5's statue, and in front of the club. You would be able to go inside the Stable, and buy your horse. You could ride it around, your own mount. Bring it into PvP, or just ride it around the Market. I think adding horses would splash in a little bit of creativity in our community.
Well I think some of the reason for the renewed interest is after all because the horse update is looming closer than it was when this thread started. Would be good fun to be able to thrown down an egg and out pops the horse, do you need to do all the taming however with an egg spawned horse? I wonder what mcmmo might do and what implications it might have for the taming tree of that. Despite that we do not have that tree on ecc.
Good point Trev, I wonder what MCMMO what have in terms with taming and breeding horses, it would probably allow you to level your taming abilities, but seeing as it is disabled on ECC that won't be anything new, but I do like Jetscat's idea about putting them in the main world at spawn, however saying that, we still have that huge problem of them being butchered, it was a point unknown brought up a while back and we realized Andrew would need to do some serious testing on ECC to see if it would be ok to have just that mob in the main world.
